Pupusas

The mother-daughter team of "Angelita" Zelaya and Francisca Frazier introduces taste buds to generations' worth of recipes perfected when the family still lived in La Paz, El Salvador. In the kitchen at Pupusas, the duo spends a lot of time preparing the restaurant's eponymous dish: a thick tortilla stuffed with medleys of cheese, pork, chicken, beans, zucchini, and other vegetables. Their menu also garners palate popularity with marinated skirt steaks topped with tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and fried plantains, as well as salads of crispy yucca root, pork, pickled cucumber, and radish. Diners can also wash down bites or christen passing ships with Kola-Champagne, a Salvadorian soda.
