Choose Between Two Options

  • $69 for a Sporting Clays outing for two people who provide their own guns and safety equipment (a $198 value)
  • $79 for a Sporting Clays outing for two, including equipment rental and a safety class (a $198 value)

Clay targets are included with both options.

The option including equipment and a safety class includes shotgun rental, non-toxic ammunition, hearing protection, and eye protection. During the safety class, instructors teach groups of 12–20 shooters basic firearm safety and handling, as well as how to fire at clay targets.

For both options, groups shoot included clay targets across a seven-station course, which winds through the Yakima River Canyon. Each challenge simulates real life hunting scenarios for various game bird species, such as chukars. Between each station, shooters enjoy scenic, laidback walks along trails and over a rustic bridge. Shooters must be at least 10 years old, and customers who bring their own equipment must use nontoxic ammo, which is available for purchase from Red's Fly Shop. Red's fall and winter season lasts from September 29–December 21.

Students bringing their own guns can arrange to shoot an additional full 50-shot round after the outing. This can be added either upon reservation or after the outing.

Red's Fly Shop

Surrounded by rolling hills and the distant peaks of the Cascade Mountains, the Yakima River Canyon teems with wildlife on the hills, in the water, and in the air. Wild rainbow bass and cutthroat trout swim beneath the river's rushing waters. This destination attracts many fishers and upland bird hunters. In the fly-fishing classes, instructors teach anglers to read the river and cast a line before sending them out into the Yakima River to put their skills to the test on wild trout.

Elsewhere in the canyon, a sporting-clay course beckons shooters to fire shotguns at seven different stations. These practice areas simulate real-life hunting conditions for various game-bird species, including chukars, pheasants, ducks, and other species. After hunters hone their skills on clay targets, willing sportsmen and women can join the Red's guide team for a day of guided upland bird hunting.

Whether for fishing, hunting, or both, Red's Fly Shop staffers schedule single and multiday outings that depart from The Canyon River Ranch Lodge, the company's home base. At the lodge, guests can warm themselves by the fireplace or retire to rooms with patios and verandas.
