Before destroying one's guitar became the ultimate act of love, the most romantic thing anyone could do for an instrument was to make it dinner, rub it down with oil, and play backgammon with it until sunrise. Learn musical love with today's Groupon. For $20, you get two half-hour music lessons (a $60 value) on the guitar (electric or acoustic), bass (electric or upright), or piano from Redbone Guitar Boutique. All the lessons take place at its classy guitar boutique in Olmos Park. Lessons are available Monday through Saturday during regular business hours.
Together, Redbone's instructors have more than 6,435 years of instruction experience; that's more than six lifetimes rocking, jamming, making splendid sounds, and busting blistering solos. Cliff Wright teaches guitar along with Greg Norris, who played on the Grammy-nominated album World Jazz by Lara & Reyes and conducts jazz clinics and master classes at many San Antonio–area high schools. Brazilian-born piano savant Nayara Megarity teaches scales, octaves, and chords, specializing in music's empathic intensity.
After your two lessons, you'll have sanded the rust off your technique, laid the groundwork for further musical exploration, or rekindled fantasies of strutting across the stage in tight-fitting spandex studded with sequins, semi-precious gems, and chrome skulls that fire lasers at anyone who gets too close. Learning to strum the songs you love might make your fingers hurt, but it pays off to begin a rewarding pastime, gain window-side-wooing skills, and earn spare change while waiting for the bus. Some practice instruments may be available in store if you find don't own your own, but bringing one is highly recommended (you can discuss your options when scheduling your lessons).
