$28 for a 90-Minute Cable-Car Holiday-Lights Tour for Two (Up to $56 Value)

During the Holiday Lights & Sights tour, cable cars drive past San Francisco’s iconic landmarks, all dressed up for the holiday season. Sing-along seasonal songs create a celebratory atmosphere as the cars cruise by shimmery decorations, and each guest receives a complimentary Santa hat.

Guests can choose to depart and return to either Fisherman’s Wharf or Union Square. Tours depart on the hour from both locations between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. This Groupon is redeemable Sunday–Thursday from December 6 to December 30.

Classic Cable Cars

Beginning in 1958, Arnold Gridley helped cable cars leave their tracks behind. He purchased multiple cars—some dating to the turn of the 20th century—at auction from the California Street cable-car line and outfitted them with motors, turning them loose on the road for charters and tours. Gridley cherished the original vehicles’ long wooden benches and cheery bells, and when he wanted to grow his collection, he sought out blueprints for the older cars. Constructed with polished oak and brass rather than modern substitutes such as fiberglass or popsicle sticks, the newer additions are difficult to tell apart from the originals.

Today, more than 40 of these authentic autos roam San Francisco as part of the Classic Cable Cars convoy. Sightseeing tours whisk passengers past landmarks such as the Transamerica Pyramid, Ghirardelli Square, and the Palace of Fine Arts, traversing the Golden Gate Bridge for panoramic bayside views. They also provide eye-catching transportation for special events, from weddings and company outings to custom scavenger hunts. The alluringly retro fleet has made appearances in the San Francisco Giants World Series parades and in media such as The Bachelor, Hell's Kitchen, and more than 10 full-length movies including Hulk and Hey, There’s that Cable Car Again!
