During the 101: Basic Climbing Skills course, budding climbers spend an entire day learning the ropes and practicing basic skills on diverse faces and slabs. Instructors distribute safety gear, helmets, harnesses, and rocket-powered grappling hooks before moving on to scaling techniques. Participants learn how to simplify scrambles up sheer slabs, vertical faces, and daring cracks. The classes take place: January 26; February 2, 9, 16, and 23; March 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30; and April 6 and 13.

Rock-About

When students sign on for a Rock-About climbing class, they don't just learn to rope their way up mountainsides and trade banter with goats. The company's certified guides also educate clients about the cultural history and complex geology of the climbing sites.
