The Issue: Traveling Costs for Families with Hospitalized Children
Families with children who are seriously ill often have to travel in order to seek life-saving medical care at specialized facilities such as the Akron Children’s Hospital. Many families need a comfortable place to stay close to the hospital, so they can focus on caring for their child without worrying about where they can afford to sleep or get meals.
The Campaign: Providing One-Night Stays for Families
All donations to this Grassroots campaign will be used by the Ronald McDonald House of Akron to provide families with one-night guest stays. For every $10 raised, the Ronald McDonald House will be able to cover the requested donation for a one-night stay for a family with a child in the hospital.
Ronald McDonald House of Akron
Established in 1985, the Ronald McDonald House of Akron serves as a home away from home for families with children hospitalized at the nearby Akron Children’s Hospital. With amenities that include private rooms and bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, free laundry facilities, and indoor and outdoor play areas, the house serves as a comfortable respite where families can rest and recuperate after emotionally draining hospital visits. Most importantly, it ensures that parents can remain close to their hospitalized child and focus on his or her care rather than where they can afford to stay or get meals. Although guests are asked to donate $10 per night, no families are ever turned away due to an inability to pay. Housing costs are largely funded by community donations and fundraising efforts.
