$30 for $50 Worth of Italian Dinner Cuisine and Drinks
The dinner menu is updated on a daily basis and includes dishes such as swiss chard pappardelle with wild mushrooms ($20), wood-fired pizzas topped with rock shrimp ($18), and entrées including grilled lamb chops ($29).
Years ago, Italian immigrants left their home in Liguria, a region on Italy’s northern coast, and settled a new homestead in San Francisco’s North Beach. The neighborhood evolved into the city’s Italian section, one heavily influenced by Liguria’s tradition of simple, fresh, and local cuisine. Among its residents was Rose Pistola, a firecracker who managed the colorful crowd at her bar and restaurant without resorting to America’s go-to method of bribing people with apple pie. Today, the legacy of Rose and her cohorts lives on in the restaurant named for her. It maintains Italian tradition by sourcing seasonal ingredients from local farmers and fishermen, which culminates in a slightly different menu each day. But even as it changes, the menu always includes family-style dishes, pizzas fired in the wood-burning oven, and entrees of seafood and steak. The food pairs flawlessly with wines from Californian and Italian vineyards and live jazz on Thursday–Sunday evenings. The restaurant boasts a full bar and is open 7 days a week for lunch & dinner.
