Saints Tavern

Though the bright purple exterior of Saints Tavern is eye-catching, the gold letters that rest upon it are subtle, offering passersby just an unassuming suggestion to come in for food and drinks. This is because once inside, it's hard to resist the cocktails and an eclectic New Orleans menu that features dishes such as catfish, po boy's, alligator, gumbo, and crawfish. Saints' fried desserts offer a hearty end to meals that pair well with boozy beverages, such as Hurricanes, Bayou Juice, Fish Bowls.

The eclectic vibe that flows through the menu is also evident in the Americana decor that dresses the two-story tavern. Most of the kitschy items that dangle from the walls were handpicked by the owners from "scoured flea markets and local shops such as Obscura Antiques to find decor such as a bear head with boxing gloves and a big fish with a soda can," according to The Local East Village. Chalkboard tables add another casual yet quirky element to the tavern, encouraging diners to doodle while they eat, or take notes for their dissertation on ketchup vs. mustard.
