Enjoy the wine with your bagel at C.B.A., Rob.
I know what you mean about the restrictions but still . . . You could buy yourself a gift or two Or one for your brother/sister/mother/father/friend/buddy at work? Easy to get around that part.
I, too, am concerned about the proliferation of 6 month expiration dates of late but it still gives you all spring and most of the summer to check the place out.
Doesn’t appear to be much of a deal, wine menu is almost all by the bottle and $35 will only be a small dent in the bill. I am going to pass on this one!!
The fine print states, not valid with other offers; does “other offers” include half price Mondays? or would I be able to use my groupon and still receive the benefit of half price glasses of wine on Mondays???
I love groupon because it allows us to try new businesses and then decide if we want to go back. I’m friends with several small business owners who have had groupons and they are offering very reduced prices (remember groupon keeps 1/2 the amount of the groupon) in order to get the word out about their business to a large group of people.
To expect to use the groupon when there are other discounts (like 1/2 priced wine) is a little ridiculous and extremely CHEAP. My guess is that you all who are complaining are not the type of customer the business are trying to attract.
Seriously, you people make groupon look bad and don’t think the business owners don’t notice and complain.
I agree.. this is a great offer at 57% off. What a great incentive to try someplace new and find a new favorite place.
Heather — relax. :) The person is just confirming whether they will be able to use it in certain conditions or not. If that makes the difference between her being able to afford it, then it’s a valid question. Yours is not the only valid reason to use Groupon.
Erin is not making Groupon look bad. I don’t understand what you are saying — these businesses are using the power of the market to advertise and float their name and reputation. Nobody expects individual people to act outside of the market to make businesses feel better or to be nice. People go for the best deal — the same market that the businesses who use Groupon are playing in to make their profits.
I wish I could check out the menu as Cheryl suggested it may be less than ideal, but unfortunately Salute’s website has reached bandwidth capacity!
I agree with Heather. If you don’t like the deal, then don’t buy the groupon. That’s a better way of showing that groupon isn’t providing you what you’re looking for. Both groupon and the businesses will notice if people aren’t buying them. Vote with your wallet, or not, and stop complaining.
i second that tara! let’s not forget that this is a company, not a person, the company won’t FEEL bad, they’ll just make less profit. i’m also concerned about the shrinking usage period on recent offers. reason being, if you’re buying upwards of 10 groupons and use 1 a week and according to that hypothetical math you’re already booked for 2.5 mths. so, in my mind i’m feeling a little claustrophobic with this recent trend.
regarding the complaining, it’s how we voice what doesn’t work to the powers that be, who can then adapt and make changes that work better for us. again, we’re ppl, they’re companies. they offer, they service, we buy.
so now, this company – salute – doesn’t bother to make their website work to find out any detailed info about it’s prices, it puts restraints on the groupon use and is on groupon for one reason, and it’s not b/c they’re being nice and want us all to show up and see how nice their company is, it’s because they need us and our money. i am already not interested in them, just based on how they’ve done business thus far, so also won’t be purchasing this offer.
LASTLY – hey groupon i get your email at 11:04 AM, with 1,000 groupies sold (and originating email departure time from you at 6:44 AM ish.) is this delay your problem or mine?
If I buy this groupon today can I print it and redeem it tonight?
Website is back up, bad time for it to go down!
Cheryl – Salute will open any bottle of wine on the list for you, always, I think that alone separates Salute from other wine bars.
Lauren – if groupon gives you the coupon today you can use it tonight.
Lauren- It says in the Groupon FAQ that deals are never available to use the day you purchase.
Kathleen- There’s a new deal starting at midnight-ish every day, not just when you get the email. I like to check for deals as soon as I get online, regardless of whether or not I received a reminder email yet :)
Also Kathleen, I don’t think they just decided to have their website not work. They probably aren’t used to getting so many hits at once. Cut them some slack! Sheesh! (Though I bet they’re glad to have one less overly cranky customer coming into their restaurant!)
David A – Amen. Kathleen C – This is a small business owned by PEOPLE. Some customers are more valuable than others. My guess is that you are less valuable. There’s a fine line between wanting the best deal and running from freebie to freebie.
Good businesses deserve to be supported. And I’m also sure they didn’t choose for their site to go down.

While visiting Chicago last weekend my wife and I used this Groupon for our anniversary on Valentine’s day and it was great. They even gave us an extra 20% off for makeing our reservation before 6pm. Patrick did a great job with the service and recommended some great wines for our individual tastes that were spot on. Thanks Salute

Its interesting how some groupons will make me like the company less. A groupon that expires in 6 months rather than 12 and has more specifics in the fine print appeals less to me than say, a simple, straight forward deal. “You can ONLY buy multiples if they are gifts” Whatever Salute, Im going to go to the Chicago Bagel Authority with the 5 groupons they let me buy.
