- $49 for a single entry to the 5K River Run (a $45 value) with a fitness assessment (a $75 value; $120 total value)
On Saturday, June 22, runners will gather at the corner of River and Potrero Streets to take part in a 5K run and support the fight against hunger. Participants can register starting at 9 a.m., and the race begins at 10 a.m. All runners will receive a T-shirt, reusable goodie bag, and a raffle ticket, for a chance to win weekend getaways, a year of monthly massages, bikes from Bicycle Trip, and other prizes. With the second option, Groupon customers can schedule a private fitness assessment with one of Santa Cruz Core's personal trainers any time after the race. The assessment involves a series of movements to determine the body's function, after which the trainer recommends specific exercises to improve fitness and performance.
After the race, attendees can stick around for the first-annual Family Health Expo and enjoy live music, demonstrations, games, and food. All proceeds from the run and expo will go to Grind Out Hunger in support of its missions to educate children about good nutritional choices and to provide food for those in need.
Santa Cruz Core
Jaime Ellison had a lot of time to to think while recovering from a car accident. After five surgeries and more doctor's appointments than she could count, Jaime thought about all the time she spent traveling from office-to-office for different therapies and explaining the same details to different practitioners. She envisioned a single wellness center that would collect a variety of practitioners under one roof who could share information and conveniently give patients the care they need. She dedicated herself to becoming a personal trainer and, in 2009, she turned her ideas into reality by founding Santa Cruz Core. There, she leads a staff of trainers, yoga instructors, dietitians, massage therapists, and fitness instructors who help clients get and stay in shape with a wide range of wellness services and fitness classes.
