Yes, its a very safe neighborhood, and there are many other dancers his age as well There is no alcohol served... Its a very family oriented environment, and parents are always welcome to chaperone. By all means I would say its totally appropriate for kids his age.

What does "Classes may be shared" mean exactly? For example, if I wanted to bring a friend, does this mean we can use the same Groupon to take classes or would we have to buy one Groupon each?

You'd need to buy one each.. Shared means that you can give them away to others.
