I’m with Mina — I’m a regular at Columbus… really, how many regulars would know about this? …and just think how we’ll feel when we see the person next to us checking out with their Groupon and we couldn’t get it? Also, we’d take care of the staff better, we have more invested. Bad move in my opinion.

when does the groupon expire?
I’m not a new client either :(
I was so happy and then so sad when I saw new customers only. Sigh.
again, another regular client! was so excited to see scott j aveda here. so disappointing that it’s new clients only!

Thanks for pointing out the first-time only fine print. I’d already purchased the groupon when I started reading the comments. I, too, have been to Columbus before. But I stopped going four years ago and have been following a former Bumble stylist around since then. Because he’s charging one hundred fifty dollars for a cut now I was going to use this offer as a trial run to see if I should return to Scott J. Alas. One good thing for first-time customers is that they will know Scott J. is legit when they see how many of us already go/have been!
I know what you guys mean… I mean, I’m not a regular at this place, BUT there are groupons that I couldn’t get because of a pre-existing membership, or due to the fact that I’d been to the place before…. however, I suppose it wouldn’t be worth it to them to do it for EVERYONE, because they are trying to get NEW customers, because they know their regular customers will be coming back. Not saying I necessarily AGREE, but it makes sense. Get a groupon for another salon someday and try it out… it may not be your favorite place, but it’s a free haircut, and who knows? You could be pleasantly surprised. Another word of advice, mention to your salon your unhappiness over this situation, and if they hear it enough they might put a deal out for you regulars. Buy 5 haircuts, get one free or something?

Just bought one for myself (a regular) and one for a friend (a new customer) but didn’t see the fine print! Guess I will be giving both as gifts. Too bad. But I love this place so much I will continue happily with no discount and perhaps my two gifted friends will become regulars. My hair has never looked better! An really excellent salon all around. Highest recommendations for Columbus location!!!
I am not a regular, but have been to the Columbus location before and really enjoyed it! Bummer that it’s for new customers only. Would I be considered a new customer at the other location?? :)
Honestly ridiculous. I am tired of signing in to Groupon to find coupons that only honor NEW Customers. I am loyal at many places in the city and will remain loyal to them—however I am not sure how much longer I will stay loyal to Groupon if this continues.

I don’t understand all the haters. For the majority of these companies, Groupon is a marketing tool specifically to get new clients in. And in regards to Scott J, they actually already have their own Rewards Program to take care of their regular customers: http://www.scottj.com/rewards.php
And anyone who would blindly drop $50 without reading the fine print first…obviously has more money than me and maybe doesn’t need to be using Groupon at all?
I walk past Scott J all the time but have never gone in because of the price. Very excited now to try them out! And since I can purchase and use two for myself, I am going to get a haircut and a 60 minute massage. Happy Birthday to me! ;)
I went for the first time a month ago and loved it…sad that I’m no longer a new customer!
Linda Sue may I ask who you use?
I went to the one on 86th street about 2 years ago, once, does this mean I can’t use this groupon either?
What is considered a “new customer.” I’ve been to the Columbus St. one b/f but a few years ago. I want to go to the Broadway Spa since Columbs doesn’t have massages anymore….anyone know the answer?
would one of the sad loyal customers let me know if they can recommend a scott j. stylist for curly hair? thanks. i’m in need of a cut (and a new salon) and maybe this offer is a sign.
TONYA ON THE UWS is a hair wizard!! I started seeing Tonya 3 years ago when I lived 2 blocks from the salon. I now travel over an hour each way from Brooklyn to see her as I haven’t been able to find anyone that comes close to her skills. My boyfriend kept asking me why I didn’t just go to one of the many places near home then he looked at me one day after I left Tonya and he said “oh wow, now I get it – you look amazing!!” Can’t say enough about Tonya – she’s been featured in magazines and also does Lady Gaga’s hair ;-)
If you’re lucky enough to quailify for this groupon, do yourself a fav and ask for Tonya! You’ll be thanking me later so, in advance – you’re most welcome! ;-)
Can I use one groupon towards two haircuts – one of me and one for my friend? I read that I must use up the entire value of the Groupon in one visit and it costs less than $100.
Hi Everyone ,
This is Scott J We wanted to let all of our existing guests know that they can use this coupon on any SERVICE that you have not EXPERIENCED before! We very much value our LOYAL guests and have a wonderful REWARDS program that I hope you all are enrolled in which gives you FREE services! WE are trying to build our new guest flow into the salon which is why I made the offer this way. I apologize to all that are disappointed. We invite you to use this coupon towards a SERVICE you NEVER had !
Yours In Service,
ScottJ
FYI- I just called 86th street and they said that it is definitely “completely new customers” so even if you go to one location faithfully- going to an alternate location doesn’t make you a “new client”. But they did say if you are an existing customer, that you can use the group-on on a service you’ve never tried before!
I’m going to try it and see what happens, as I’ve never got my hair dyed there before.
Hi Christina ,
Thats great!! and i know you will love aveda color and our service providers!!
scott J
I have never colored my hair before and just purchased this groupon to finally make the change! Can anyone recommend a good colorist?
Any of the locations would be fine. Thanks!

Michelle – This is 1 Groupon per customer – no splitskys but perhaps you can also get a brow shaping or some other add on!
AS SCOTT STATED IF YOU ARE A CURRENT CLIENT AT ANY OF THE SCOTT J SALONS FEEL FREE TO PURCHASE A GROUPON TOWARDS A SERVICE YOU’VE NEVER HAD BEFORE!
Enjoy!

Has anyone been to the 86th street location for a massage ? Any recommendations ?
Totallly bummed that I can’t use this… especially now that I’m a broke grad student.
Neha S. (& any of you new customers looking for a recommendation) – I’ve been going to Jose @ 86th for my cuts & highlights the last 2 years & he’s fabulous. He keeps my “natural” blonde locks looking natural (even my boyfriend was fooled)! Tell him Leanne says hello. :)
Wow I’m so glad I read this entire thread because I’m a regular at UWS Columbus and would have missed out on this groupon! I’ve had my hair colored but not cut and I’m also thinking of doing a keratin treatment.
Also I agree with the poster who recommended Tanya. My only reluctance is that I hope I can still get an appt with her. She is fantastic!
I’m a new customer and totally excited about it~~ Can anyone recommend a stylist for a haircut, i have lots of hair and im tring to wear it long… but every stylist just layers down and that’s it… i want something new! Since i see most of you are already regulars any tips will be very appreciated!!! :D
Lina L. – the find print says “limit 2 per person…may use up to 2 at time”. Please verify before I buy 2. Thanks!
Hi ScottJ,
I’m a new customer. You’re saying I would be able to buy 2 Groupons and use them on separate occasions (ie haircut on one day, massage on another)?

i love love love groupon, and i think its funny to hear people complain and whine everyday about how they cant buy the groupon, lol, just dont buy it, maybe tomorrows will be better for you, whiners, lol
Hi Scott J,
New customer as well.
Can I spit 1 groupon between two people ie if one is just a child’s hair cut ($35), I would use the rest toward a cut for me?
Thanks!
I agree with Meredith- one of Groupon’s main missions is to recruit new customers, not give discounts for existing customers. The business itself should be providing existing customers with discounts if they want to reward them/maintain their client base, not groupon.
Those who recommended Tanya, is she a “master” or “senior” or “stylist” or what? Just want to know if I’ll have enough left over to get another treatment as well.

Hi all!
1 Groupon per person – can not share Groupons.
You CAN use 2 GRoupons per person, separately or both at once.
Enjoy!
Lina

how long does it take to process your payment? im trying to make an appointment with Scottj salon but i need some number from groupon..
Reading the comments I thought, hum…maybe I’ll try this place. I like the idea of spa facilities on site and points/membership programs. As I see this salon all the time near my house, and my salon didn’t do massages, and in my head MY salon is really my stylist’s name (call “becky”), I didn’t realize this actually WAS my salon until I saw the interior pictures. Perhaps a little more marketing to established customers. I’ve been going there for 5 years! I’ve lost 1000s of points but at least I can try a new service.
Hi Scott,
I am Richard’s client for many years, prior to the current Columbus Avenue location. I can understand why loyal customers are upset with an offer for new customers only. I can also understand your approach for new business via the Goupon Offer . You may want to consider an additional offer to meet existing clients halfway and offer existing clients $25.00 off $50.00.
Thank you for your great services! Abbi

Hi Nitya,
It can take a bit for purchase to process – you will receive it by the end of the day. Once you receive it in your account you can locate it on the top right hand side.
Best,
Lina
Groupon
thanks Lina,
but what does it take so long? i bought this specifcally to use sunday and if i dont use it sunday i wont be able to spend it bc a friends coming from out of town.
is there any way i can expidite this process just this time? or can i get a groupon # from where so i can confirm the apt with the salon?

Hi Nitya,
It should be done processing shortly way before Sunday – I am sure you can ask Scott J to hold the appt and that you will confirm your Groupon ID number as soon as you receive it – no later than tomorrow morning.
As far as why it’s taking so long – we are in 32 cities and in the hearts of over 2.3 million wonderful people such as yourself. The Groupon people are hard at work on their bikes trying to support the internet but the power in your hearts is a lot to bare. We are trying and trying and thank you for your patience!
Cheers,
Lina

Sooo any recommendations??? I heard Tonya and Richard and Becky? Can you guys please specify what level are these stylist on? and also how much do you pay normally for a haircut? i want to make sure one groupon is enough.. I have long hair… thanks!!!~

For Michelle G: I use Austrid (and have also used Julisa) and all my blond friends are forever wowed by how natural the high and low lights come out. Worth every penny.

Not to mention, every time I leave after a haircut from Austrid, I feel like an absolute movie star. She is THE hair goddess. Austrid. Yes.
PS does lady gaga have any real hair? I think I’ve only seen her in wigs. Enjoy, people, this is supposed to be fun, not a cause for heartache.
I’ve noticed Scott J before but never gone. Is the blowdry/styling included in the price of a haircut? I can’t tell from looking at the info on the Scott J website.
Thanks.
Two recommendations: Nicholas at Columbus who still styles my best friend (both straight, hers thin, mine thick), and was mine for about 4 years and Carpio who’s back at Broadway and will give you something creative and daring if you’re willing!
Thank you for the suggestions!! What level are both of these stylist? Stylist? Senior? Master?
Did anyone ever do make up at any of there locations, if so how was it,any recommendations. if the make up service is $60 could i add on eyelashes appplications to make up the $100 value of this offer.
hi
yes the blow dry is included with the hair cut price ,and they do great make up !!
for the bridal make up do they come to your house the day of the wedding or you have to go to one of there locations?
hi charlene
we do both kinds of makeup visits , our in home bridal hair and make up is a diffrent price than whats in menu ! you would neeed to come in for consultation !look forward to seeing you !
I was thinking of getting my husband two of these to get a massage. Two questions: 1) Can he use the balance to pay the gratuity? i.e. If he has $200 in groupon money – can he use $175 for a 90 min massage and the other $25 as tip and make up any extra tip in cash?
2) Do you guys still do nails?

I would like to find out the answer to the comment prior to mine from Laurie M. – and would like any Regulars to please rate their massages and maybe recommend me to someone, particularly a female masseuse – i would like to get two groupons and take my girlfriend there for her birthday for a massage.
Well I’ve gotten Groupons before and it never allowed u to use it for tip … I’m sure it’ll be the same this time….

Hi all,
Gratuity is NOT included. ALSO please remember that Groupon subscribers tip on the full amount (pre-discounted) and we tip well! ;)
Hope everyone enjoys their services!

Hi Scott J.
I’ve gone to a Scott J. salon once before for a “new talent” haircut. It was okay, and I haven’t been back. When I saw the Groupon (and the caveat for new services only) I was thinking about upgrading to a senior stylist because this is a service that I have not used before and would not take the risk on paying unless I knew the quality of the cut. Is it possible to use the Groupon to explore the potential for upgrading permanently to a senior stylist? Thanks!
FYI – It’s also for ONE day of services – so make sure you book your time there accordingly so you get the FULL value of this groupon because they won’t “credit” you for a later time. I would recommend trying to get in at the 86th street or bway location because they have a better mix of services to pick from.
Had a friend used this groupon at the colombus location which is only a salon (not a spa) so she used 54 dollars worth of services by the end of her appointment and they wouldn’t let her resheduale for another visit to redeem the rest of the amount.
I did a haircut with a senior stylist, a 60 minute massage, and an eyebrow tweezing at the 86th st location (used to 2 groupons) and it was GREAT! I will most likely be going back, even at the normal rate…!
Any updates from anyone who has used this groupon?

Yes any more reviews? I’m thinking of getting a haricut and a body wave…anyone tried that? Also do they deliver sub-par service being a Groupon customer?
I just came back from the Columbus location with a big smile on my face. I had a great haircut by Jessica, and had it flat ironed, and had my eyebrows tweezed by Juan which was all included in the groupon. They even give a complimentary make up touch up.

Had an ok experience at the UWS salon. The haircut only cost 60 bucks so wasted the remaining 40 bucks on my groupon.
My stylist was sweet, didn’t talk a lot, gave me a blah haircut that I could’ve given myself.
Eva,
Who was your stylist?
Any other reviews?
The limit on this groupon is listed as two. I purchased two and am now being told that I cannot use the second one for the same service. That is not listed on the groupon or on offering. Very annoyed.
Wow. I am impressed upper management remedied the situation right away. Thank you Scott J.

I’d recommend people to go to the Columbus, UWS location. I had a much better experience there. Everyone was courteous…was offered tea, had my hand massaged, a nice wash and nice haircut.

I’m so annoyed! I’m a regular at the upper east side location and this offer is only valid for NEW customers. What a way to stay loyal to your loyal customers… Not cool!
