During Scuba Shack's six-week Open Water Diver PADI-certification class, instructors lead novice swimmers through the academic and practical aspects of deep-water exploration. The weekly course renders success in underwater breathing and a chance to complete certification dives. Personal scuba gear is not included, so divers must bring their own or purchase a scuba-quality mask, snorkel, fins, and boots from Scuba Shack's onsite store, which offers a 100-day satisfaction guarantee on all products. In addition to the included online academic course, divers must purchase a PADI training logbook and Recreational Dive Planner (RDP) to track their progress and dives before completing dives in New England (about $37).

During the three-hour Discover Scuba Diving class, nautical explorers strap on provided gear and plunge into an indoor pool while guided by experienced instructors. Students learn basic scuba skills and safety rules as well as how to control diving depths, monitor air supply, and sing Air Supply’s “All Out of Love” through the respirator.
