$15 for $30 Worth of Handmade Candy

Shoppers can pick up handmade, regionally sourced desserts such their signature salted caramels and toffees topped with unrefined sea salt or unique salt infusions like spicy chile verde or ginger. Fresh Chico almonds ($7.95–$23.95), or old-fashioned honey-vanilla caramel come topped with Sonoma sea salt ($9.95–$39.95).

Sea Salt Candy Company

Fourteen years ago, when Gretchen's father began battling the throat cancer that deadened his sense of taste, she comforted him by making soothing, chewy honey-vanilla caramels. Gretchen's business partner Lisa spent her youth amid the almond orchards near her grandparents' candy business, developing a deep appreciation for locally made confections and sweets. The pair converted an old Vista pizza parlor into their own candy shop, making sweets by hand from wholesome ingredients such as central California milk, Sonoma sea salt, and San Francisco chocolate.

Like any good buddy-cop movie, the selection of treats blends disparate ingredients that work surprisingly well together, such as signature caramels and toffees dusted with unrefined sea salt, or chile verde caramels. Gretchen and Lisa also give back to their community and non-profits by creating handsome fundraising packages.

The Groupon Guide to: Finding a Thing of Money

Although everyone gets out of bed each day hoping that today will be the day they finally happen upon a life-altering thing of unclaimed money, finding a thing of money actually comes with intractable legal and ethical ramifications. What steps must you take before you have legal and moral right to a found thing of money?

  • Alert the police that you have found a thing of money. Give them your phone number in the event that someone reports that exact size of a thing of money missing. Do not give them your name.

  • Hang fliers around the area where you found the thing of money. Fliers about a free thing of money will likely attract ne'er-do-wells, so instead, have the fliers read: “Found: an item. Could be good, could be bad. Can you prove you lost something by guessing what I have found? We shall see.”

  • At the end of 30 days, if you feel fairly confident you have done everything humanly possible to find the thing of money’s original owner, go to your nearest charity. Dump half of the money into the charity’s mail slot. The remainder of the money is yours to keep, you good-hearted citizen.

What are the rules about finding a thing of money? Do you get to keep it?
