$12 for $24 Worth of Paint-Your-Own Pottery, Glass Fusing, and Mosaic Designing
In the paint-your-own pottery studio, artists select from more than 300 bisque pieces, such as a classic platter, a coffee mug, a piggy bank, or a collectible figurine ($12–$35 on average). Next, the staff walks visitors through the nuances of painting their pieces, helping them choose the best colors for their projects. After pieces are finished, the staff glazes them before a baby dragon fires them. Each visitor receives a yellow pickup slip to bring when they come to claim their art in 3–5 days. Visitors also pay a $7 studio fee, which covers paints, materials, glazing, and firing.
Visitors can delve into a number of art projects inside the bustling art studio of Seize the Clay. During free monthly glass-fusing workshops, participants learn to cut glass into pieces they can then shape into pendants ($20 for 8–12 pieces on one tile), dishes, or plates ($35–$60/project). They can come back in two weeks to pick up their finished artwork and may stop in any time after the initial workshop to create new fused-glass pieces at their leisure.
When creating a mosaic, each visitor selects one of 50 wooden shapes as the background for their artwork and then arranges and glues on a variety of glass tiles ($14.99/pound) and found objects, such as buttons and stones, in an inimitable design. They can take their creation home that day, allowing it to dry before they apply grout ($2.99/tub) to solidify the design.

A piggy bank covered in polka dots, a platter celebrating Mother’s Day complete with each of her children’s handprints, a ceramic replica of Sesame Street’s Ernie—these are just a few of the projects that have emerged from Seize the Clay, a hands-on art studio specializing in pottery painting. In addition to embellishing various bisque pieces with unique designs, visitors can create glass-fused pendants, multihued mosaics. They can also try their hands at the potter’s wheel, hold birthday parties, or attend an interactive summer camp.
