In a Nutshell

Organization creates fair-trade job opportunities by making soccer balls for competitive players and nonprofit organizations

The Fine Print

In 2010, there were 215 million child laborers working around the world, and 115 million of those children were working in hazardous conditions, according to a report from the International Labour Organization. Fair-trade standards works to reduce these numbers by both prohibiting child labor and ensuring workers receive a fair wage. With this Grassroots campaign, you can help create fair-trade job opportunities and practice your soccer skills. All purchases include shipping. Choose from the following options:

  • $20 for a turquoise Valor XLS training soccer ball in size 5 (a $35 value)
  • $20 for a turquoise Valor XLS training soccer ball in size 4 (a $35 value)
  • $20 for a turquoise Valor XLS training soccer ball in size 3 (a $35 value)
  • $30 for a red Apex match soccer ball in size 5 (a $45 value)
  • $30 for a red Apex match soccer ball in size 4 (a $45 value)

Santiago Halty started playing soccer when he was 5 years old. Years later, he paired his lifelong passion for the game with his college experience in fair-trade products and founded Senda Athletics to increase the positive impact organized sports can have on communities. Senda Athletics sells fair-trade soccer equipment to create fair-trade jobs across the globe and supply durable soccer balls to professional players and four different nonprofit organizations, including Street Soccer Bay Area Chapter in San Francisco and Defensores del Chaco in Argentina, that increase access to sports for people with limited access. Each of the workers in Senda's supply chain receives the national minimum wage, while the factory standards ensure the health and safety of their workers and prohibit child labor. All balls are handmade, come in three sizes, and can be used for all levels of competition.
