Pasta became a staple of Italian cuisine after Roman Emperor Caligula famously appointed a plate of lasagna to the Senate. Elect to eat decadently with this Groupon.

$10 for $20 Worth of Pizza, Pasta, and Italian Cuisine

The menu includes five-cheese white pizzas ($10.75–$17), pasta in a sherry cream-mushroom sauce ($9.25), manicotti stuffed with ricotta and parmesan ($8.75), grilled-chicken deli sandwiches ($6.50), and baked shrimp-scampi casseroles ($9.50).

Sgt. Peffer's

When guests walk into Sgt. Peffer’s, they're greeted by a quirky combination: checkered tablecloths in the colors of the Italian flag and Beatles-themed wall murals. But the most telling part of the ambiance can't be seen: it's the aroma of the freshly baked pizzas that helped earn the restaurant The Destination Guide's 2012 award for Omaha's Best Pizza. Made with original or whole-wheat dough, the carefully constructed crusts host lightly seasoned tomato sauce, piles of fresh mozzarella, and a sprinkling of romano. Specialties include a BLT pizza with bacon and alfredo sauce and a marinara pizza with shrimp, clams, and tuna. The chefs don't do substitutions on their specialty pies ("Let it be," the menu advises), but they'll gladly let diners create their own combinations from nearly 40 different toppings, including zucchini, sauerkraut, eggplant, and prosciutto.

Guests can continue flexing their creative powers on the pasta menu, which lets them pair their chosen noodle with one of 13 types of sauce. Baked-pasta dishes, including lasagna layered with grilled chicken and artichokes, round out the menu alongside a slew of sandwiches. Many of the restaurant's offerings can be made gluten-free, and diners can also bring in their own gluten-free pizza crusts, edible napkins, or sandwich buns.

The Groupon Guide to: Talking to an Old Friend

If you’re going to be out and about in this world, chances are that at some point you will run into an old friend you used to know from summer camp or summer juvenile detention. Here are some things you can say to spark conversation with this long-lost pal:

  • “Hi, I’ve missed you. Let’s see if our hands are still the perfect size for holding each other.”

  • “So, what have you been up to all these years? From the looks of things, you’ve been staying fit, active, and hungry for change.”

  • “Do you remember the pact we made to each other all those years ago? Was it that we would never grow up or never throw up? Because I’ve only been adhering to one of those.”

  • “Get out of my way. I’m very important now and I’m allowed to go right to the front of any buffet line.”

  • “I’m sorry that I stopped writing, but the only things I had to say to you were illegal to put in writing.”

  • “Do you recognize me? You do? Who am I? I had an accident and now I don’t remember anything about my former self. Was I kind and beautiful?”

Was I kind and beautiful?
