Prior to the hamster-wheel-propelled desk fan, Benjamin Franklin invented a momentum-harnessing dance floor to power light bulbs and fondue fountains. Acquire energy-channeling dance moves with today’s Groupon. For $40, you get four 45-minute private dance lessons at Shall We Dance?, located in East Louisville and New Albany. One Groupon is good for up to four people attending each private dance lesson, so guests are welcome.

Many cultures utilize dance as an everyday form of communication, knowing that nothing says, “You got a funny haircut” like a well-executed rumba. At Shall We Dance?, students will learn a variety of dance styles during their private lessons, including American, international, and nightclub styles. Practice the mambo-influenced cha-cha, smooth-shuffling waltz, energetic samba, and pace-altering foxtrot. Anchored by the masterful footwork of owners Brandon Thompson and Kimberly Hassmann, Shall We Dance? employs a well-trained staff who guide students with nurturing attention. Brandon and Kimberly both started dancing at a young age and have since traveled the world while being coached by some of the finest talents around. Shall We Dance? also provides a spacious dance environment that awakens the dancer hiding within, who was behind the appendix all along.

Not only is dance an excellent skill that facilitates social interaction, it’s also a great workout that strengthens the core and smoothes respiratory pipes. Impress reticent onlookers hugging the walls at your high-school reunion or rodeo-clown mixer with frolicsome footwork that will stop charging bulls in their tracks.

Reviews

Shall We Dance? will participate in the 2010 Derby Festival Dancing with the Stars. One of the Courier-Journal's writers participated in the 2008 dance festival alongside Shall We Dance?'s owners:

  • I'm so glad [fellow participant] John and I had the chance to do it in front of such a supportive crowd. He and his professional partner Kimberly Hassmann, from Shall We Dance studio, were wonderful. My partner, Brandon Thompson, also from Shall We Dance, made me feel so comfortable, even though I was nervous as all get out and flubbed the final moment of our performance. At least I didn't crack my head on the dance floor this time around. – Angie Fenton, Courier-Journal
