In jousting, as in life, the winner is the one who does not flinch from adversity while the loser is the one who shows up in pajamas. Suit up for medieval success with this GrouponLive deal to the Sherwood Forest Faire in McDade, held Saturdays and Sundays from February 9 to March 31, as well as Friday, March 15. Children 5 and younger are regularly admitted for free. Choose between the following options:

* For $18, you get two one-day passes (up to a $36 value).

* For $34, you get four one-day passes (up to a $72 value).

Robin Hood and his Merry Men spin back the centuries for the fourth year in a row at the Sherwood Forest Faire, joined by a company of ironclad riders, bearded wizards, and colorful elves, goblins, and trolls. Bands of swarthy pirates join the festivity, stalking the fairgrounds while waiting for the tide to dislodge their ship from the River Trent, and Merlin the Wise might be found conjuring doves and levitating tables with the help of his assistant. The New Riders of the Golden Age thunder through the jousting yard on massive belgian, percheron, shire, and clydesdale horses, and hundreds of artisans and vendors sling period-appropriate—and often handmade—wares and knickknacks. Live music from performers such as Wine & Alchemy, Saxon Moon, VaNaMaZi, the Rambling Sailors, Bedlam Bards, and the Bard O’Neill accent the festival's schedule.

Food stalls help guests understand how people ate before the advent of multicolored ketchup while they fuel up, and Robin Hood himself presides over a table that groans with heavy courses of roasted and grilled meats, soups, fruits, and cheeses. Camping is available onsite for $5–$10 per person.
