####Where Although 67 Orange Street isn’t actually this bar’s address, it does refer to that of another bar—Almack’s, the famous black-owned music hall where dance-offs between Irish and African American patrons birthed tap dance in the 1840s. The [_New York Times_](http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/17/dining/17tipsy.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0) describes this Zagat-rated cocktail lounge as “a seductively dark den,” and the [_Village Voice_](http://blogs.villagevoice.com/forkintheroad/2009/12/one_year_in_har.php) calls it a “cozy, vintage-inspired speakeasy” with “cocktails that evoke the spirit of Harlem.”

####Who Karl Franz Williams grew up in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. After graduating from Yale, he joined PepsiCo’s innovation and beverage development team but found himself consulting with mixologists instead of scientists. In 2008, he translated this love for well-crafted drinks into 67 Orange Street, the follow-up to his pioneering restaurant Society Coffee.
