During a 15- to 30-minute sclerotherapy treatment (a $250 value), clients receive an injection directly into the offending spider vein, irritating the lining of the blood vessel until it swells and eventually begins to clot. Smaller veins will begin to disappear from view within three to six weeks, and larger veins could take as long as four months. One injection is generally used to treat 1 inch of vein, and afterward clients receive compression stockings (a $20 value) to speed up the healing process.
