$69 for a Three-Hour Trail Ride with Smoked-Brisket or Baby-Back-Ribs Dinner ($140 Value)
- Three hours of horseback riding and brief lessons (a $35 value/hour)
- A dinner of smoked brisket or baby-back ribs (based on availability) paired with tea, water, or a bottle of wine from Lenoir-Sage Vineyards (a $35 value)<p>
Before the three-hour trail ride, an equestrian expert acquaints rider and beast with a 30-minute introductory ride in the ranch’s sandy arena. The guide then leads groups on a mosey beneath the tranquil boughs of trees that dot the edges of recently expanded wooded trails. Riders will take an epicurean pit stop for dinner, then remount their steeds and voyage back to the farm, marveling at roaming Texas longhorns and passing by the historical 1800s-era Blanton Cemetery. An optional car ride to the nearby Lenoir-Sage Vineyards can further extend the excursion.
Sleepy Sheep Ranch
Leafy trees throw cooling shade over Sleepy Sheep Ranch’s zigzagging trails as horseback riders and their steeds trot past ponds and trickling creeks. When not escorting riders around the ranch’s maze of riding trails, resident horses and their goat companions frolic in a sprawling pasture, where both experienced and fledgling equestrians can saddle up their own horses or those that live at the ranch. Sleepy Sheep Ranch provides board and care for local equines whose owners don’t have the space and for local mustangs lying low after losing a road race to a golf cart. Serious riders can peruse a for-sale selection of livestock, which includes a handful of stallions and boisterous goats whose iron stomachs allow them to eat not only their own share of food, but the horses’ and compost bins’ as well.
