Questions and Answers
Hi Mark, I am travelling to CO in a few weeks and have been checking the Denver groupon for fun things to do. I will be there from March 29 – April 2 do you have any snapshops going on during that time? I couldn’t find the schedule on your website. It sounds like a lot of fun! Thanks.
Hi Mark.
I am pretty good with the framing and composition of my photos, but I am in need of help with lighting, aperture, etc (all of the more advanced functions of my camera). I also prefer taking pics of people, rather than scenery. Would this be a lesson for me?
The Groupon deal sounds amazing! Can the coupon also be used at the Boulder location?
Hi Melissa,
I have workshops… (and these are all subject to change, until the first person signs up, but you can use this as a general guide)
every Wed Eve in Downtown Denver Urban Photo Workshop
Thursday Early AM in Boulder, CO (Mt. Sanitas sunrise photo shoot/hike, be prepared to get up EARLY for this one – exact time, TBD) – This is a pretty steep hike, but it’s beautiful!
Sat AM – Pearl Street Mall / Boulder Canyon Hike – Boulder, CO
Sat PM – Boulder, CO Nature Hike: Bluebell Baird Loop in Boulder, CO starting at Chatauqua Park (this hike is a little less strenuous than Mt. Sanitas)
Sunday PM – Downtown Denver – the “urban” SNAPshop
AND Every Friday, Limit of 10 students, these are sponsored by Family Tree Photographers (http://www.familytreephotographers.com) we will meet at the Colorado Railroad Museum, Golden, CO where you can bring your children! We’ll be working specifically on taking better photos of the kiddos. It’s a lot of fun and Family Tree is offering a FREE family photo shoot that you schedule for a another date). All attendees will have to pay for their own entree fee into the museum.
I’ll get you more info regarding meeting places etc… as you sign up. But typically, our evening classes start at 4PM on weekends, 5:30 PM on weekdays and our AM classes start at 10AM, except for the Sunrise hike which may start at 6AM or earlier! :)
P.S. If you have signed up already or are about to sign up, please text me for availability for the exact date of the class you’d like to make a reservations for. I can confirm availability over text and get you into the calendar. Just text me at 303-669-3816 I won’t be answering the phone every time, but I can respond to texts very quickly.
CHRISTINA – This is EXACTLY what SNAPshops are. Yes, Sign Up!!!
I have some super cool tricks on how to find amazing light. After my class you will always have one eye open for those silky little pockets of light that you can put people in to photograph.
I also cover a lot on shooting composition – some cool tricks to make your images really stand out in the crowd of amateur photography!
And most importantly, I’ll tell you which of your camera features should be kept on “auto” and which you should use (like your exposure compensation mode, flash modes, white balance modes, etc.)
P.S. There are a few “BLACKOUT” dates: April 16-18 and June 21-23. For those two weekends, I may have an associate instructor if it seems that there is a lot of demand.
Correction to my previous post – blackout dates are April 16-18 and May 22. Also June 18-19. For July, the 4th, 10th and 24th.
Can I buy more than 1 groupon if I wanted to try out a couple of your workshops?
Sure Kari! Please do. :) Also these are a lot of fun with friends, so please “pass it on”.
Hi Mark
I have a 10-yr old that I’d like to get into photography. Do you work with children? He’s mature, takes instruction well. If not, do you have a recommendation?
Thanks!
Hi Kristin, Sure – I think for liability reasons if they are under 16 I will require that an adult (legal guardian) also buys a lesson. But its a fun thing to do with your kids. I was 13 when I got my first camera. This is a great age to get him passionate about photography!
Hi Mark,
I’d like buy this groupon for my husband who has a really cool camera but doesn’t get to use it very often. Do you think we could get in before we move to PA this summer? It looks like you sold a lot already. Let me know if you have availability. We are early risers. Thanks! Lauren
Hi Mark! I just got a new point and shoot and really want to learn how to use more features so this timing was great. I’m a food blogger, so I do a lot of close up shots but I love taking pictures in general- people, beautiful Colorado scenery, basically everything. I can’t wait to take a class!
Hi Lauren – Sure – people are indeed buying the groupon, but a lot of people are waiting for a perfect time to sign up so I don’t see it as a problem. If you are on a time schedule, just let me know an exact date you are trying to register for and we’ll try to get you in. I don’t think it will be a problem!
Hey Catherine! Food blogging sounds fun! I think this is going to be a fun workshop for you! Thanks for signing up!! :)
Hey Mark!
Do you offer any day trips that are not strenuous hikes?
Oh, and I should clarify…I mean day trips during the week. Thanks!
Hi Lisa,
Sure, I will add a weekday day hike. Maybe a Red Rocks day hike on a Monday. Let me know what Monday would work for you and I will add one to the calendar to see if I can fill it up. It might just be a few people, but that’s OK!
From the discussion, am I correct that we can purchase more than one groupon, and the class we sign up for can be any of your classes that have space available?
Hi Cindy,
That’s correct, come to as many classes as you want. It’s all based on availability though so if one is full, we’ll just move you to the next available class. Thanks!
Do you have a schedule online with available openings?Or just choose & try to pick a date from what you posted here?
Hi Annie J. I still have availability in all of the openings. Lots of people buying still don’t have specific dates picked out yet. But when you make up your mind, you can just email me the date you would like to get into at mark@cafierophoto.com and I will get you in.
Thanks!
We’re awaiting the arrival of our new digital camera this week and anticipating a trip to Alaska in a few months, so this would be quite helpful — do you have any kind of deals for a couple (single camera between us!) or would we need to both buy a groupon to attend a class together? Thanks!

Hi Mark — This sounds like a great idea! Since you say these classes are for everyone, do you have classes for people with limited mobility? I cannot walk long distances or stand for a long time, but I would love to take a class like this. Any suggestions?
Hi Mark—the session at the CO Railroad Museum sounds perfect! I’ve been wanting to learn how to take better pics of my kids. Are these sessions always at 3:00 on Fridays?
Hi Guys!
Kimbery: Alaska sounds awesome! One place I have have been wanting to go myself. For couples, unfortunately each person needs to purchase. Mostly because I am trying to keep my class attendance to a minimum so that I can give more individualized attention. Would love to see you there!
Pamela: I am willing to make a “limited mobility” class for you and other people with special needs. Just let me know and we’ll get something on the calendar, even if you are my only student, I am happy to do that.
Amanda: Yes, those classes are at 3:00 and I just need to know in advance which date you are thinking of because there is a limit of 10 students (not including your kids). I can see if I can do a later time, if it’s a problem.
Mark – I’m interested in the CO railroad museum class. I have 3 kids. Is it possible to bring my husband as well so he can keep an eye on the other kids if I’m busy with 1 of them? Or will he need to purchase a session as well?
Hi Anna Mae! I wish I could but for sake of being fair and consistent with other students, if you want to bring a spouse or partner, I need to ask that you purchase two of these. But it’s a fun experience for everyone. Thanks!

Thank you so much Mark! I will definitely buy. Thank you!
Hi Mark – I bought a Canon EOS Rebel about 2 years ago and it’s smarter than I am.
Will you be able to help me with this thing? Will you be doing any Red Rocks on the weekends? I’ve purchased the groupon and would really like to be on that outing.
Thank you. Suzanne
Hi Suzanne! That’s a great camera! But what I have found is that most people keep it on “AUTO” or “P”. Looking forward to get you out of that mode.
I am open to doing a Red Rocks Class on a weekend. Let me see how the Groupon ends up and I will try to add one to the calendar.
Can’t wait to play with that Rebel with you!
Mark

Hi Mark – I just bought this deal and passed it onto several of my friends. I hope they buy it, too! I am looking forward to learning how to better (digitally) capture the experiences of my life :)
~ Paula
Great Mark – You’re absolutely coorect. I’m in AUTO most of the time and occasionally try the other settings, but I’m a little (a Lot) lost.
Sounds like some great opportunities. Do you have classes offered for people that are more than beginner, but certainly not expert? Also, is there a listing of class times somewhere?
Thanks!
A weekend Red Rocks trip sounds fun! I just bought groupons for my dad & I. He has a hand-me-down EOS Rebel (from my husband), and my husband just got a new one (EOS I think) that I would like to learn how to use! Maybe an EOS Red Rocks trip!!
Hi Dawn, at the very top of this discussion, you will see my general SNAPshops schedule. It’s also at http://www.snapshops.wordpress.com (click on the link, “upcoming SNAPshops”
Paula, that’s awesome! This is a fun fun fun thing to do with friends and makes for a great date that’s different than the usual dinner and movies. By all means, talk it up!
Dawn, I have one-on-one workshops for people who are a little more advanced. Unfortunately it’s not part of the groupon deal here, but I am happy to talk with you more about that. Shoot me an email and we can talk about that.
Melissa, my pro gear consists of EOS Mark D’s so I am all about the EOS. :) That would make for a fun workshop!
ATTENTION SLR SHOOTERS… I have been getting lots of inquiries from people with SLR’s. I am going to add a few classes (dates will be TBD) specifically for SLR shooters. Just an FYI!
Mark, to follow up on your latest comment….can we use this Groupon towards an SLR session? Thanks, Suzanne
You CAN use this groupon for an SLR session! Thanks!
Big Camera, Little Camera. SNAPshops are for everyone, and make for a great, fun date, with friends, spouses and family! OK that was my last shameless plug! :) Hope to see you at a SNAPshop soon. Thanks everyone, this is going to be really fun!
Mark
Hi Mark, I read your response to Pamela J. about a limited mobility class. Since you’re willing to do one (thank you!), I purchased a groupon. Please let me know when you schedule that class, so I can join. Thanks.
MARK: i’ve tried to email you twice to set up time for a class. i’m moving out-of-state at the end of the month and would like to participate in this opportunity as able! please let me know if the sunday class is open…or anything next weekend (24 am/pm, 25) or the following thurs am class. i am as flexible as can be and am excited to learn about my new camera-please work with me!!!
Hi Mark, I am interested in signing up in the next coming weeks as well. I only see February classes on your “gallery” sign up, so please let me know if and when you have upcoming classes. Thanks!
you guys will not be disappointed with this class! i learned so much and am excited to practice my new skills NOW! best of luck to you all-thanks again, mark, for being so flexible and patient! i will most definitely recommend your classes to anyone and everyone that i can! :)
We are having trouble getting connected for the Snap shops groupon. We look forward to taking the class….can you help?
I sent an email to mark@cafierophoto.com
a week or two ago and haven’t received a response. I need to schedule this class soon or I won’t be able to participate. How can I get in touch with someone? Please get back to me! Thanks!
I have sent 2 or 3 emails over the last 3 weeks and have received no response. The Snapshops website hasn’t been updated since October. Just wondering if there is another way to get in touch? Are these classes still going on??
I have the same problem. Any suggestions?
i know i may be too late for some, but since there were a couple questions within the past 30 days i thought i’d post, just in case…
just to let you guys know, snapshops has now become chimpsy and you can find them at www.chimpsy.com. they’re still around and still doing lots of field trips and classes!! :)

Hey everyone! It’s Mark Cafiero, here…. Just want to encourage everyone to ask questions right here in the discussion. I will have limited access to phone calls, but will be checking this discussions probably hourly to answer all of your questions.
One quick thing – SNAPshops are for EVERYBODY! You don’t need a fancy schmancy camera to benefit from my photo field trips. While I own tens of thousands of dollars in pro equipment, I usually show up to my SNAPshops with a little $159 digital Elph! And THAT is what it’s all about. Big camera, little camera, 5 megapixels or a billion megapixels (I’m still waiting for that one), I will show you how to use the features you have to take truly amazing pics!
It’s a lot of fun, for a date, for yourself or as a gift. I have different themed SNAPshops that I will be hosting all Spring and Summer, including EARLY morning sunrise hikes in Boulder, some geared towards taking better photos of your children, landscape and nature themes, and even some fun “everything” classes right here in Downtown Denver.
Hope to see you there!!!
Mark
