After scientists revealed UFOs were actually full-grown tortillas, people everywhere filled swimming pools with guac and beans to catch and dissect the floury creatures. Nab tender, baby discs with today's Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of authentic Mexican cuisine and drinks at SOL Restaurant in Franklin.
SOL's creative menu of fresh Mexican cuisine is inspired by traditional recipes, world travels, and culinary daydreams. Enjoy a classic combination of Haas avocados, serrano chili, lime, and cilantro in SOL's Gaucamole Casero, which is prepared before your very peepers in a tableside display of vegetable domination ($9.95), or start your feast with an order of spiced-tuna nachos topped with avocado, pico de gallo, and ancho aioli ($10). Gourmet plates are piled high with savory options such as chicken molé over cilantro rice and dressed with pico de gallo ($17), enchiladas de mariscos (tortillas rolled around crab, shrimp, scallops, and spinach, and topped with salsa-verde cream, $18), and the vegetarian wild-mushroom sauté (mushrooms sautéed and happily coated in ancho cream and served over a sweet-corn masa cake with crumbled goat cheese, $16).
The restaurant's cozy confines are vibrant and warm, and the eclectic décor resonates with the old-meets-new menu by combining quirky artisan wall art with crisp presentation. Complement SOL’s colors with something vivacious from SOL's drink menu. Masterful margaritas ($7.50–$11) and specialty cocktails, such as black-cherry limeade ($7.50), cut through beverage boredom faster than a rusty chain saw cuts through butter statues of cows eating butter. Reservations are required.
OpenTable diners, TripAdvisors, and Yelpers give the restaurant an average of four stars. Five Citysearchers give a full five stars, and diners love the drinks and the guacamole made right at the table.
- Best Margarita and guacamole experience I have ever had (and that's saying a lot)! The food is not your typical neighborhood, street Mexican. Rather, it is healthy, creative, and fun with just the right amount of Mexican/Spanish influence. – OpenTable reviewer who dined on 1/01/2010
- Everything that we tasted was so fresh. Our waitress was incredible and did an outstanding job informing us of the menu choices. Our drinks and chips were never empty and she was very pleasant. – hoppscrouse, TripAdvisor
- Beware that it is NOT like your typical Mexican joint. I love those places too, but this is more authentic Mexican with fresh ingredients. MUST HAVES: Guacamole (Prepared and served at your table), Jason's Martini (Pom martini), and Churros for dessert. – rdobbs17, Citysearch
