Resident pro Paul Boslet—a recent starter for the nationally ranked Radford University tennis team—teaches beginning tennis players the game's rules and fundamentals during four weekly classes. On five resurfaced courts, Paul leads groups of 8–12 players, giving tips on how to hone forehands and backhands, deliver controlled serves and volleys, and remain unfazed by badminton birdies hurled onto the court by bored line judges. Sessions also break down the rules of scoring while introducing participants to strategic concepts.

The series of four once-a-week tennis classes is available in two sessions beginning on June 25 and July 30. The class runs on Monday at 6 p.m., Tuesday at 7 p.m., and Friday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Participants do not need to attend the program on the same day each week; they can choose whatever session is most convenient on a weekly basis.

Springside Racquet & Fitness Club

Long Island native Rocco Cona has had a tennis racket in his hand since the age of 11. His unyielding infatuation with the sport motivated him to go pro, win the Kidel Cup in 1983 as part of a doubles team, and found Springside Racquet & Fitness Club in 1988. Within the family-friendly facility, Cona leads a team of certified trainers and accomplished sports instructors as it whips athletes of all ages into shape with tennis, soccer, and swimming lessons.
