$20 for Entry to Urban Scavenger-Hunt Adventure Race on September 8 ($50 Value)

During the challenge, teams of two or more run helter-skelter around the city in a frantic race for cash prizes, personal pride, and entry into the national challenge, with a first-place award of $300 at stake. Not only do participants have to solve strands of interconnected clues, they need to plot spatiotemporal stratagems while exploring undiscovered corners of the city. Although being physically fit is a plus, quick wits and wise planning ultimately determine the winners. Participation in the challenge gets contestants a clue packet, race-number bib, and T-shirt, and fees go toward the prize pool. The website offers a regular FAQ, as well as a Groupon FAQ detailing the intricacies of the race, what to wear the day of, why it's not okay to bring a boa constrictor, and more.

After the race is through and winners are determined, all participants are invited to partake in an after party and awards ceremony. Challenge participants can partake in drink specials and music while additional prizes, such as best costume, are announced. Check the website for updates.

Challenge Nation

Challenge Nation pioneered the urban-adventure race with a race season that includes visits to 35 cities across the country. Each scavenger hunt is personalized to the hosting city, exploring its many diverse neighborhoods with a series of clues that would test even the most skilled children's-book detective. The teams—comprised of at least two people—vie for a $300 first-place prize. The Amazing Race–style competition rewards quick wits and wise planning over physical fitness, so the best way to prepare is by doing logic puzzles while eating Funyuns and lounging in a La-Z-Boy. The top five teams receive entry to compete in the national championship, which rewards winning teams with a $5,000 cash prize.

The Groupon Guide to: Creative Ways to Quit

Jobs are for work-loving stiffs who worship the gods of the nine-to-five clock. Throw off the shackles of gainful employment with these creative ways to end your job:

  • If you work at a place with a counter, hop over it and pretend to be a customer. When you get to the front of the line, order the I Quit! sandwich/movie ticket/bank account.

  • Send your boss an email telling him or her to meet you in the break room. When he or she shows up, be sawing the head off of an effigy you made of your work self.

  • Leave a voicemail on the phone of each of your coworkers giving them a really personal compliment. They'll know that you're being too familiar for someone who could still be considered a colleague.

  • If you work somewhere that has customers, hold them close and tell them you'll miss them. Tell them the things that have been in your heart this whole time that you couldn't express because of the unspoken boundaries between worker and customer. Let them know that though they will not see ever you in the future, you will live on in their brains like a bad brain fungus.

  • If you're a famous movie actor, just sprinkle the letters from the words "I quit" throughout the words of the dialogue in your movie.

How can I break free from being gainfully employed?
