From Napoleon’s great crab walk through Europe to J. Robert Oppenheimer’s discovery of nuclear fission by kissing his own elbow, victory has always gone to the most flexible. Overpower enemies with today’s Groupon: for $37, you get five yoga and strength-training sessions (a $75 value, $70 for first-time clients) at STROGA, located near the corner of 18th & Columbia.
STROGA specializes in both yoga and functional strength training for a fitness routine that utilizes every imaginable turn of every available appendage attached to a body of any age. With today’s deal, you’ll get your choice of five yoga or strength training sessions (you may combine classes from both categories). A staff of experienced instructors guides students through a flexible schedule of yoga classes for every ability level, including hot yoga performed in elevated temperatures for extra-sweaty detoxification. Strength training is incorporated to increase the muscle-building and tendon-stretching effects of regular yoga practice.
The studio itself is a cavernous affair spread over multiple floors, with multitudes of wide windows providing an ample supply of cheery natural light. Studios decked in hardwood floors with intricate baroque ceilings or murals of soft, white clouds provide gorgeous and calm spaces to engage in bodily revivifying. After class, head to the beautifully appointed lounge and recline on a cozy sofa, or cool down by doing calisthenics while holding a plate of beef stroganoff.
Five Yelpers give STROGA an enthusiastic 4.5 stars: > * I am very impressed with the quality of instruction here, and the individualized attention. – Molli S. > * I’ve done yoga in lots of different places and this is probably the most beautiful studio I’ve ever been to. Stroga Strength and Yoga
Stroga Strength and Yoga is the perfect name for Doug Jefferies’ fitness studio, as his goal is to help clients reach optimal levels of wellness through a combination of strength conditioning and yoga_. The studio sprawls out within the L'Aiglon building, an early 20th-century construction accented by stained-glass windows and extensive woodwork. Inside the immense yoga space, ivory chandeliers drip from an intricately carved ceiling of the same hue, and periwinkle walls alternate with floor-to-ceiling windows that bathe up to 100 yogis in natural light. An azure ceiling painted with puffy white clouds tops the open-concept fitness area, which accommodates group classes for up to 20 students or up to one massively over-stuffed teddy bear.
