Q&A with Melissa, Owner/ Teacher
Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
We have upbeat music, great teachers, [and] positive attitudes in a fun environment. We also encourage our students to take breaks and listen to their bodies throughout class. Your body changes each and every day.
What is the biggest mistake you see people make when trying to get fit on their own?
Pushing themselves too much when sometimes less is more. Doing the pose correctly gains more benefit then competing with the person next to you.
When and how did you first develop a passion for fitness?
Both business partners (Melissa and Emily) have always loved fitness. It wasn't until we found Sumits Hot yoga that fitness "changed" our lives and it became a lifestyle for us. We learned to mentally clear our head, shut the mind off for 80 minutes, relax, breath, tone, detoxify, cleanse, and nourish our body in a whole different way. When you take care of YOU, you can give back to everyone else in your life with more peace, patience, gratitude, and love.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Sumits Hot Yoga attracts all types of people. Young, old, male, female, athletes, and non-fitness people. Everyone comes to their mat for a different reason, that's the beauty of yoga. Some people want to just de-stress and turn the mind off and lay down most of the class, while others want a very hard workout so they push themselves a little more.
