Sunken Gardens, nestled in the heart of St. Petersburg, stands as a lush, tropical oasis boasting over 50,000 exotic plants and birds. As St. Pete's oldest living museum, it offers a glimpse into the city's rich history, with many of its plant species dating back more than a century.

St. Pete's oldest living museum is a botanical paradise in the midst of the bustling city. The 100-year-old Sunken Gardens is home to some of the oldest tropical plants in the region. Meandering paths guide visitors through a living collection of more than thousands of plant species, tropical plants and flowers with lush demonstration gardens, cascading waterfalls, a flock of flamingos, and a colorful array of rehomed tropical birds including macaws, cockatoos, and more.

With a dedicated team of animal care staff and volunteers, Sunken Gardens ensures the well-being of its resident animals, including tropical birds, turtles, tortoises, and koi. The horticulture staff, alongside passionate volunteers, works diligently to maintain the beauty and uniqueness of this historic botanical garden, making it a cherished showplace and educational venue for visitors from near and far. Founded by George and Eula Turner, who cultivated their love for wildflowers and exotic plants in the early 1900s, Sunken Gardens has transformed from humble beginnings as a sinkhole into a world-renowned attraction filled with tropical palms, orchids, and serene waterfalls.

Really tranquil environment that is excellently maintained. They recommend 1 to 1.5 hours to enjoy it all, but my girlfriend and I turned it into three. Bringing snacks and a light picnic would be good. There are a few lovely turf fields surrounded by lush vegetation that are perfect to just sit down in and soak in the environment. The 2 for 1 deal is 100% worth it and we will go back, with snacks this time
