$28 for three samurai-sword classes (a $75 value)

$119 for five samurai-sword classes and a sword to take home (up to a $260 value)

Students begin their training by learning the feel of a wooden practice sword, curved to imitate the blade of a traditional Japanese katana. Through rigid repetition of the basics, pupils advance to cutting with dulled metal blades and, eventually, sharpened brands called shinken. Organized by experience, classes are open to both beginner- and intermediate-level swordfish and humans.

Sword Class NYC

When not producing works of educational theater in New York, New Jersey, and California, Sword Class NYC instructor Raab Rashi arms students with practice blades and the self-confidence, focus, and respect to wield them properly. During both group and private classes, Rashi teaches a martial-arts style known as Siljun Dobup, translated as "real sword training," which demands both mental and physical focus to draw the weapon from its scabbard and perform a smooth, swift cut. A test, held every two to four months, provides diligent pupils with the opportunity to advance in rank up to the maximum level of fourth dan, earning an official certificate and the ability to dice vegetables just by furrowing a brow. Additionally, Sword Class NYC has recently started offering youth sword classes once a week to students from 8–14 years old.
