Over the course of three to four hours, tour groups experience two continents’ worth of cuisine more than 1.5 miles of Asian and South American restaurants in Silver City. Possible stops include La Isla Restaurant, a Puerto Rican joint specializing in mofongo, a sweet and savory fried plantain entree, and Mr. Sebass, where tender Peruvian beef and seafood is served by two generations of gourmands. The appropriately named Thai Bar-B-Que eatery waits on the stretch as well, grilling vegetarian and meat dishes and slathering them with rich barbecue sauce. Additional possible cultural explorations through the neighborhood may include stops to the Urban Ecology Center, the Hank Aaron State trail, and the Asian International Market.

Taste of Urban Milwaukee Food & Cultural Tours

Amber Flanagan's grandparents moved to Milwaukee from Mississippi in the 1960s, bringing with them their culinary heritage and their firm belief in the importance of good eating. Today, Amber carries on their passion for gastronomical traditions by leading walking food tours of the Silver City District and the Historic Third Ward. Milwaukee’s history as a hub for immigrants from all over the world is reflected in the city's diverse ecosystem of restaurants: tours may bounce between Vietnamese, Peruvian, Thai, and Mexican cuisines on their journey. Some restaurant outings incorporate cooking demonstrations, which could otherwise only be glimpsed after donning an elaborate busboy disguise.
