The dental-implant procedure is a permanent solution to fully restore the function and appearance of teeth and is ideal for patients who don't want bridgework or dentures. The treatment begins with the attachment of a metal anchor and temporary crown to the jawbone, a process that can take one to three hours. Most patients choose to receive oral medication to make them sleep during the session. Over the next three to six months, new bone grows around the anchor and the temporary crown is removed. An abutment is attached to the tooth to support the permanent crown. Then, an impression is taken to craft the final crown. The result is a new tooth that is comfortable, strong, and permanent.
