$17 for a Three-Hour Learn to Knit Workshop ($35 Value)

Beginners spend three hours under the expert instruction of Bev Walker during Learn to Knit classes. Bev coaches 3–10 pupils through each yarn pull as they learn to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off before mastering garter and stockinette stitches with their own circular needles and yarn. Supplies are not included but can be purchased from the shop.

Beginning September 10 and lasting through December 22, classes are available at the following times:

  • Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tempe Yarn & Fiber

The artisans at Tempe Yarn & Fiber cultivate an educational atmosphere where creativity flourishes amid an inventory of top-shelf yarns, fibers, and fiber-arts equipment. Largely stocked by local suppliers, the 3,000-square-foot studio branches off from an open gathering space into individual classrooms where pupils learn to knit, crochet, spin, weave, and dye fibers. Instructors well-versed in the fiber arts ring in classes that teach skills such as beginning knitting, gradually progressing to more complicated maneuvers such as patching up a hot-air balloon in motion. Teachers also allow students to set their own pace during project help sessions, staying on hand to offer pointers as needed.

The Groupon Guide to: Earthmoving Equipment

Heavy-duty construction vehicles were put here for one reason—to help us mold and shape the earth into something that isn't so unattractive. Here are the main machines we use to pretty up this place:

Bulldozer: This powerful vehicle got its name from its inventor, a bullheaded child who set out to create a machine capable of clearing away all the dangerous, sleeping bulls that stationed themselves near his bedroom window. Today, construction workers exclusively use bulldozers for carpooling and pushing their garbage off the construction site and into the street.

Forklift: These are only used in emergency situations, such as when a building begins to shake violently because one corner was made shorter than the others. To remedy the problem, the construction workers will prop up the faulty corner with the forklift and then elegantly integrate the vehicle into the actual building by covering it with cement.

Backhoe Loader: Construction workers aren't even sure what backhoe loaders do, which is why they always just light them on fire for warmth on days when the temperature dips below 70 degrees.

Why do so many skyscrapers have corners that appear lumpy?
