Pilates exercises help improve body and postural awareness and give people better control of their movements. Paige Talley and Shannon Morton teach private and group Pilates lessons that take a body-conscious approach to fitness and rehabilitation. Paige has been conducting Pilates sessions and working as a physical therapist for eight years, during which she has helped patients grow stronger and reduce pain.

During the private lesson, one of the teachers will introduce the history of Pilates and help her student tackle a full-body workout on the Pilates reformer and a mat. After this orientation, students can progress to mixed-level group classes, which welcome up to three students at a time and which move faster, incorporating a range of exercises. As the class settles in, Paige or Shannon might play soft music or show pictures of baby bunnies to build a calming atmosphere in the cozy studio space.

Terrio Therapy-Fitness, Inc.

Terrio Therapy-Fitness, a physical-therapy and fitness center, constantly looks to its mantra, “there has to be a better way,” when helping patients and the local community deal with problems. That’s why it creates custom therapy and fitness programs, why it developed two pediatric centers that cater to children with disabilities, and why it has expanded from one small outpatient clinic to 12 clinics throughout the area with 35 physical, occupational, and speech therapists.

Though the staff primarily cater to sports injuries, the range of services has evolved to treat both adults and kids with a variety of therapies, such as occupational and speech therapy, teaching kids and adults how to deal with pain or say “my name is Sharon” in Esperanto. The centers’ fitness facilities build muscles through group classes such as Pilates, fencing, and sports-specific skills training, and personal-training sessions provide one-on-one workouts with exercise gurus such as Steve Sobonya, who has trained Olympic gold-medal winners. In order to further aid in weight loss, Terrio Therapy-Fitness’s nutrition experts offer metabolic testing and personal consultations to discuss nutrition goals and why eating bacon for every meal and snack is a bad idea.
