Rather than shooting boring paper targets, shooters in different stations train their crosshairs on full-sized, paper targets designed to look like Frankenstein's monster and other Halloween characters, along with several 3-D mannequins such as a gravedigger monster that "ooze" when hit. Skeet holding targets are also available.
Outings are held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only. Customers may bring their own gun and ammunition or rent a firearm for an additional $40; ear and eye protection rental are included.
At Texan Defender, clients can become expert bowmen and marksmen. Archers aim at three-dimensional zombie targets, bringing either their own equipment or first come first serve renting on-site. For students looking to increase their comfort and proficiency with firearms, experienced shooting instructor Dan Hullum leads classes in the basics of handling and operating a handgun. Dan holds his classes at a private outdoor range and typically begins training with classroom instruction to help students brush up on safety tips and firearm basics.
