Read the very next line….must activate membership by 6/30/10. Thus, membership is valid for one year from activation which must be before June 30, 2010. That’s my take on the Fine Print…..
There must be a typo on the expiration date for this. Please correct this moderator!

There isn’t a typo. As Sandy already explained, the groupon must be used before 6/30/10 or else it will expire. When you use the groupon, you will be receiving your yearly pass from the Adler. Then the expiration date for the pass (not the groupon) will be a year from the day you receive it.
It would have been a great deal if parking was included :(
It is not.
Yes, Sandy is correct. A buyer must redeem their membership before 6/30/2010, but the membership is valid for 1 full year from the date of redemption.
(Example: If you redeem your membership on March 5, 2010, your membership will be valid until March 31, 2011.)
Yes, I agree that parking would have been great to offer as well, but unfortunately the parking lots surrounding the Adler Planetarium are not owned by the museum. They are owned by the Chicago Park District and managed by Standard Parking, so the museum does not have the authority to offer a parking discount.

An outstanding benefit of this membership is that you get reciprocal benefits at other museums around the country. Check out the Association of Science-Technology Center website for more details (www.astc.org). Through this program, you get free or discounted admission to a bunch of museums, as long as they are 90 miles or more away from where you live or the museum where you have your membership.
We actually live in Indianapolis and have a membership to the Indiana State Museum (costs us $59/year for a family). We get free admission to the Museum of Science and Industry, Field Museum, and Adler Planetarium. We were in Chicago a few weeks ago and hit the MSI and Field Museum. I think we would’ve paid well over $50 at each for our family of 5.
I just purchased for the first time from Groupon. After I purchased it said 97 people still have to buy this for all of us to get it. Is that correct?
Great deal, there was a deal for parking at millinum garage offered 5 passes for $ 50.00. Sara S. you have to validate your coupon by 6/30/10. It is good for one year.
Does anyone know how many people are included in the this family membership? Is it a family of 3-4? thanks.
Ben S.: Thanks for the referral to the ASTC website. I’m really happy that purchasing today’s groupon will allow me to go to other museums when I travel.
Hi
For the same household. Does it have to be blood relatives because I would like to do this with my boyfriend.
Thanks
The family membership covers unlimited admission and theater tickets for two adults and up to six children under 18 years old,
while the individual membership covers unlimited admission for you and one guest.
I’m debating between the individual and family memberships.
Does anybody know if kids under 3 years are admitted free? It looks like that’s the case on the Adler website, but just want to confirm.

MY FIRST GROUPON !!! YAYYYY ! :) I am so excited ! What a great deal ! :)
How many do they usually sell ? Is it unlimited ? Thanks for all of the great info in this thread. :) Looking forward to more Groupons ! :)
Just wanted to be clear. The individual only includes unlimited admission but not theater tickets? Does this mean the family membership would be the same as buying the universe package everytime you went?

Rene, I believe the Family includes everything — it looks like the movies and all — including discounts at the gift shop too ! :) I am so thrilled, we were going to go last weekend, but my hubby, two kids, and myself — $$$ — so this is FANTASTIC ! ENJOY ! :)

Free coat check too ! :) Individual memberships get the same benefits as Family, just for one person and guest. (I looked at the “Fine Print” for today’s deal near the bottom of this forum.)
Groupon has really come through on the museum memberships lately. Our family bought this and the Notebart membership. How about a Groupon from Chicago Children’s Museum?

Great deal… especially with the ASTC/reciprocating deal. Only I think it’s unfair that it’s only free to ASTC sites OUTSIDE 90 miles of where you purchased your membership… so if you purchase a membership at the Adler… you cannot use it at the Field Museum or the Museum of Science & Industry. Bummer!
Thank you Dellutri. I can’t wait to go!
Update from Adler Planetarium:
A Family membership is good for unlimited general admission and unlimited sky show tickets for 2 adults and up to 6 children under the age of 18.
An Individual membership is good for unlimited general admission and unlimited sky show tickets for you and guest.
Both memberships include a 10% discount in Galileo’s Cafe and 15% off in the Infinity Shop.
Children under the age of 3 to receive free general admission.
The reciprocal agreement is good at the Milwaukee Public Museum, in case anyone is wondering because they’re barely 90 miles. I called them to make sure because I’ve been wanting to go but it’s too $$$. That was the deal maker for me!
In what method will the groupon or membership arrive? email, mail or otherwise. I would like to know how to expect it now that I have purchased.
On Monday you should receive an email containing a voucher to redeem your membership.
Thanks, this is a great deal and although I have lived in Chicago nearly 30 years, I am a #1 tourist of the city and hit the museums regularly with the family.
What about the Historic Atwood Sphere Experience? Is that included, too?
I called Adler membership line and was told the family membership can be any 2 adults and any 6 children. They do not have to be related or reside in the same household. A great deal for Grandmas and Grandpas!
The Web site says a family membership “Features unlimited general admission and FREE theater tickets* for two adults and up to six (6) children living in one household (under 18 years)”, but nowhere is the “*” (after tickets) defined. The individual membership comes with a caveat that “Free sky shows and general admission during daytime museum hours only. Discounts are avaliable for evening features.” Do these limits apply to the family membership as well?
In an email response to my question, Adler indicated: “those limits on sky show tickets apply to the family membership as well”
The Family membership includes up to six children under the age of 18…..does that mean that I can bring up to six 18 yrs (daughters & cousins) under the family membership ?
Update from the Adler Planetarium:
The Historic Atwood Sphere Experience is not included in the membership, but members do receive a discounted price of $2.
The limit on “free sky show shows and general admission during daytime museum hours only” does apply to Family Membership as well. Although, there are several evening member events that are free of charge throughout the year. The error on the website is currently being corrected.
Once you have purchased a membership, you will be receiving an email from Groupon with redemption instructions. You will be able to redeem either on-site at the Adler or online. A link will be provided with the redemption instructions if you would like to redeem online. To redeem onsite, you will have to visit the museum box office and present your Groupon voucher.
Does anybody know of a parking discount certificate you can buy? Where is the best place to Park?
Last year, my DuSable Museum Family Membership gained me free admission to The Adler Planetarium. It’s a cultural exchange program. The offer may not be in effect at this time though.
I realize I’m probably in the minority, but I wish when a museum calls something a ‘family pass’ that it actually means family. I have more than 6 children…I wonder which ones I should leave at home.
Sorry to sound a bit tetchy, but to me, ‘family’ would be defined as all minor children instead of giving a specific number.
My first groupon purchase!! When I click on my groupons I get a msg that the order is being processed. Does anyone know how long it takes to process?
Thanks

I’m having the same problem, Sandra… and it’s also my first groupon purchase. I ordered at about 10am, and it’s stil “processing”. I verified my cc# and info is all correct, so I believe it’s something on their end. I hope there’s no problem! :-)
Don’t worry, it will be “processing” until the deal is over.
Yeah, the “still processing” is actually a benefit — occasionally someone may misinterpret the fine print or other info, and BUY the deal, then find out it’s not what they thought. Since it’s still processing, there can be a chance to “unbuy” the deal.
In reply to the comment about “family membership” being limited to 6 kids, 6 is pretty generous since I’ve seen some limited to 4. Also, since kids don’t usually carry ID with them that includes their home address, it’s pretty easy for people to slid in kids who aren’t part of their household. So a higher number might lead to lots of abuses. I understand the dilemna, since families with a greater number of members need the “family pak” even more, but 6 probably covers the majority of families.
I am happy to see that I am not the only one that is still “processing”, I was thinking I did something wrong and was going to miss out on the deal.

I am so excited ! :) Rene, me too… I did read somewhere that the next day or so we will get further info. I did notice it did not charge yet to my bank account either. This is my first Groupon ! Yours too ? Excited !
We should have a Groupon Meetup one day ! LOL
Thanks everyone, great information shared here on this forum. What fun. :)
My Groupon is already available for printing.
In response to ‘Family Membership", we have one child in our family, and usually, it means we pay extra for a family membership to make up for families with many children. Really, you should count your blessings that you get 6 kids in for the same price of a family membership that I pay the same for as you do. REALLY? 8 family members for $40???? I can’t believe you would even be whining about this…..
What are the stipulations with reciprocating the membership at other museums around the country? I live in Chicago but my sister lives in Madison, WI and is curious if she can use the membership at any of the Madison, WI museums listed on the website.

It is based upon the location of your museum (the Adler) and location of your residence. Both must be 90 miles or more away from the museum you are planning to visit. For most museums you must provide proof of where you live in order to use the reciprocating admission.
It looks like the only Madison museum you can use this at is the Madison Children’s Museum, but there are other ones in Wisconsin. Your sister would not be able to buy the groupon for the Adler and then use it there though, because her residence would not be 90 miles away. If you went to visit her though, you could use it.
This site has more info: http://www.astc.org/members/passlist.htm
I would suggest contacting the museum that you’d wish to visit since there are still museums out there who may in fact have their own agreement(s) independent of the museums etc. appearing on the ASTC list.
I did a search of the ASTC site but only checked museums within the state of IL. Granted, there may be a very small admissions fee involved but then again, there may also be some museums with “Free Days” thrown in there too.
Can I activate the membership on line? I want to sign up a child to attend a camp at the Adler with the discount and I am not ready to visit. I am afraid the camp will get booked before I can get there!
OK, now I’m confused about if the family membership can be for ANY 2 adults and ANY 6 children or do they have to be from the same household. Valerie (above) said she called Adler and they said ANY, but the website says “same household”. Which is it????
I seriously doubt if anyone will ask if all of you live under the same roof. They’re basically checking for current memberships (as far as the actual date on the membership card.
I’m somewhat confused about the 90 mile distance. I live in Rockford, IL & would visit the museum in Chicago. But there are 2 nearby me that are on the list. Does it have to be 90 miles from my residence & Chicago both? Or just Chicago?
@ Carol D, have you tried calling them? Your in box will probably give you options about this Groupon.
I printed my Groupon but will not be using it anytime soon. My decision not to use the Groupon soon is subject to change once my sister’s grandchildren discover that I purchased this one.
@ Shawna, I would call the museum that you plan on visiting “before” heading out. That list is nice but there are still some museums who have a different membership exchange policy etc. that may be closer to your home.
When will I get my Groupon? Mine was processing all day on Friday, now I see others have already printed theirs and I don’t have anything yet.
Great deal. My first Groupon. We already went and had a nice visit. The staff was very nice. My Groupon was available within one hour at the Groupon site under my account. the 90 mile rule refers to the museum not your home.
This might be a great place to go

If the membership is a one year pass, why does it expire June 30, 2010? Is this a typo?
