The Buffalo Restaurant & Bar

An original 1865 newspaper bearing the headline of President Lincoln’s assassination hangs on the walls at The Buffalo Restaurant & Bar in the historic mining town of Idaho Springs. It’s just one of the many historic elements at the eatery, which is comprised of four different buildings—all more than a century old. Like an adaptable vampire, each structure has lived many different lives since the late 1800s, serving as everything from feed stores and hotels to billiard halls and recording studios. The antique bar, built in Chicago in the early 1860s, first journeyed to Colorado by wagon train, and a collection of antique signs also hang throughout the restaurant. The historical Western decor and atmosphere pairs fittingly with the menu, which showcases buffalo as a choice ingredient, from buffalo black-bean chili to barbecue-buffalo-brisket pizza pies.

The Groupon Guide to: Being Too Big for Your Britches

No one likes people who are boastful—especially if they can’t back it up with substance. Consult this helpful guide to find out if you are too big for your britches:

  • Does your mouth write checks your butt can’t cash?
  • Is the volume of your bark disproportionate to the incapacitating power of your bite?
  • Do people condescendingly affix “mister” to the front of your name?
  • Are you all bluster and no muster?
  • Has anyone ever held you in place by affixing their palm against the top of your head while their abdomen stayed just out of reach of your windmilling fists?
  • Do you have to constantly pull up your trousers because they’re all that’s left of your father, a husky fighter pilot whose last words to you were “I have to go away for a while, champ”?

How can you tell if you’re too big for your britches? This guide can help you out.

  • Cute little old fashioned store attached. Historic building, legendary bison dishes.

  • I am fond of buffalo meat. The buffalo Ruben is a particular favorite of mine. It's the tastiest, most delicious Ruben sandwich I have ever had.
