The Catalina Flyer leaves from Newport Beach at 9 a.m. on scheduled days throughout 2013, although guests must arrive by 8 a.m. to confirm their reservations. Consult the fine print for a list of additional blackout dates. Passengers are limited to two carry-on pieces of luggage per person. Return trips leave from Catalina Island at 4:30 p.m. on those same days, but passengers are not obligated to return on the same day they arrived. Instead, guests are encouraged to take advantage of the island's numerous activities, including golfing, biking, kayaking, fishing, and snorkeling, all of which are available for additional fees.

Though this merchant sometimes offers a discounted price online, this Groupon is still the best deal available.

Catalina Flyer

Catalina Island may reside a mere 75 minutes from Newport Beach, but that's no reason why visitors shouldn't travel there in style. The Catalina Flyer allows them to do just that, accommodating as many as 600 passengers who spend their speedy journey relaxing on the sun decks, enjoying a drink in one of two full-service cocktail lounges, or gazing out the viewing windows and watching for migrating schools of sushi rice.
