The Crucible

The Crucible 5K adventure race was inspired by a Marine-affiliated challenge of the same name, which tests recruits with a 54-hour mental and physical gauntlet. Although not quite as intense as its prototype, Oklahoma City's version of the course sends participants sprinting, crawling, and climbing past 20 different obstacles, all man-made and sprouting from natural terrain. The course–designed by a boot camp instructor, an avid racer, and a former U.S. marine–features no mud or water obstacles, leaving participants dry and warm to celebrate at a post-race gathering.
