My boyfriend got this groupon last time they offered it last year. When he picked up his bike it had two flat tires…not worth it.

Hello Groupies!

The work is guaranteed and I know that Dan and Maria at Dutch Bicycle would not knowingly return a bike with two flats. If you had any problems with your last tune-up through Groupon, please let me know and I will try to make it right for you.

You can email me directly at patrick@groupon.com.

Thanks,

Patrick

for Jeanine M,

Hi Jeanine. I’m sorry that your boyfriend wasn’t happy with the service. While it’s extremely unusual that a bike would leave with both wheels flat – I will gladly put two new tubes in for free. Please have him stop by and we’ll make it right. Or he can pick up the tubes if he’d rather.

For reference, whenever we fix flats they are warranteed for 7 days – due to the nature of how flats come about

Thanks, Maria

I purchased this Groupon last year, and I can’t say enough about what a great decision that was. Dutch Bikes not only did an excellent job fixing up my old bike, but for some reason my back tire was prone to flats, and they fixed it for free (repeatedly) with no questions asked. They went above and beyond teaching me about my old bike, and I went back to them last month when I decided to purchase another used bike. The honesty in the way the do business is refreshing, and I will never be returning to a snobby Boston bike shop again.

I cannot recommend this place enough!

Leah

This is an excellent deal! Last summer they made both of my old beaters ride like new with just the basic tune-up – and those bikes came out shiny clean! They were swamped when I first went in but took their time with the people in front of me and were courteous to us all. I’ll be going back again.

Again, Groupon, what’s with not mentioning that it’s a limited deal IN THE EMAIL?! Please, please, please, please, please start doing that!

I used a Groupon for Dutch Bicycle last year to perform a tune-up on my old Diamondback. They informed me of fork damage and got me a replacement fork for cheap. They could have just bent the thing into shape and I probably would have been ok until one day it snapped without warning and caused an injury on some mountainside. I appreciate Dutch going the extra mile for me and I expect most, if not all, other bike shops would not have done the same, especially since I did not buy my bike form them to begin with. They were friendly and knowledgable, even providing updates by phone regarding the shipment of the replacement parts. My situation may have been a special case, but I have confidence in the care and attention provided by Dutch Bicycles and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

I have an ’85 Schwinn Le Tour, would you guys be able to work on it? Also, do you guys do bike fittings?

Hi Tony D.

Thanks for asking! The Schwinn is fine – go ahead and bring it in, we’re doing first come-first serve at the moment. Please bring your Groupon. And yes, we do do bike fittings.

Maria

mixed reviews, but i’m in for one…hopefully my old beater will be brought back to life!

Avoid Dan (the owner) and the Dutch Bicycle Company.

Like others here, I had a Groupon to use for a tuneup of a run-of-the-mill Trek hybrid. I had never heard of them before, but I figured I could give them a try. This was mid-September 2010.

The store front is not easy to find from the curb, and when I arrived a giant flatbed truck was blocking almost the entire front entrance. Ok, whatever. Perhaps they don’t rely on walk-in traffic.

I dropped my ride with Dan, and he said it would be a few days. He took my information, handed me a receipt, and promised to call when it was ready. I told him it was no rush.

After two weeks (I admit it had slipped my mind my bike was getting serviced), I called to check on the status of the work.

After a brief check, he returned to say he had no record of my bike. I gave him my receipt number (lucky I kept the copy handy) and he went back to searching. After a few minutes, he tells me someone has already picked up that bike! He proceeds to tell me that perhaps I forgot I already picked it up (suuuure) or that a friend grabbed it for me. I asked if the person picking up presented any kind of identification. He claims his policy is to release bikes to people even if they have misplaced their receipts and don’t have id. He swears that the person picking up asked for the bike by my full name (I don’t have a common name). I asked why, if he had my phone number and email address on file, he didn’t try and contact me when this was happening. Didn’t this seem a touch fishy? “Hey man,” he said, “don’t get upset with me.”. You did this! You smack of incompetence, and I have every right to be upset with you.
To his credit, he promised not to leave me high and dry. He said he’d file a police report and start the process of making a claim on insurance.
About one hour later, he calls me back to inform me that – lo and behold – he’s found my bike! Turns out he had it in his garage all along. What about this person he “swears” came in and picked up the bike, asking for it by name? He didn’t have an answer to that one.
I picked up the bike the next morning, and he muttered an apology and mealymouthed something like “I did 800 orders this year, I was bound to mess one up”.
I guess that’s his idea of customer service: incompetence, lies and then excuses. The actual work done appears ok, but I’m profoundly turned off by this horrible experience.
There are plenty of other quality, reputable, friendly shops in the area. Please patronize those and avoid this place.

I seem to be having a lot of trouble picking up my bike from this place. I’ve driven up from Providence three times to retrieve it (twice on a weekend, once on a Wednesday at 3 pm), only to find signs on the door that say “Gone for the day, be back tomorrow”. That, and they never answer their phone, so I can’t even find out beforehand if they’ll be open or not, and they never return my calls. Huh.
