Any farmer will tell you that a rooster is the only alarm clock that can double as breakfast and, when necessary, transportation, a hat, and a close confidant. With today's Groupon, chow down on eggs fresh from the rooster's nest. For $10, you get $20 worth of breakfast or lunch fare at The Egg & I Restaurant, the nondenominational first temple of brunch located in Addison.

The Egg & I started in Colorado, but like a tumbleweed or a particularly sturdy egg it rolled its way south into the Dallas culinary scene. Sit on the outdoor patio and sip premium, fresh-ground Costa Rican coffee, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and made-to-order smoothies. Or head inside, where the décor is as sunnily downhomey as the yolks on your plate. Vegetarian options abound, and egg whites can be substituted at any time so long as you order with conviction and integrity.

Dishes typically run between $4 and $9, ranging from the stately and traditional, such as the four-cheese and green onion–garnished Wisconsin scramble ($6.99), to the more experimental, like the asparagus and portobello-mushroom hiker's benedict ($8.69). The Santa Fe huevos rancheros, a soft flour tortilla topped with eggs, refried beans, spicy chorizo sausage, and a mound of pork, green chile, and sour cream, is practically a local celebrity after it was featured on the local Fox affiliate's morning show. The Egg & I Restaurant also features a wide lunch menu, including the creative chicken-apple-walnut sandwich on grilled raisin bread ($7.99) and the fajita chicken salad with avocado and corn salsa ($8.59), the ideal dish to convince yourself that whoever your chicken was, he went out in zesty style.

Private meeting rooms are available at no extra charge for the whole extended and embarrassing family, as well as senior discounts for the grandma who wishes she could see you more now that she's so often busy with skydiving class (20% Senior Tuesdays, 10% every other day). Both breakfast and lunch are served from the crack of 6 a.m. (7 a.m. Sunday) to the dusty close of 2 p.m.

Valid only at Dallas location.

  • The sandwiches and salads are really good and the soups are homemade. My girlfriend loves their spinach salad with grilled chicken on top of it and the chicken waldorf salad with chicken tortilla soup. I love the Arizona Turkey sandwich and the tuna melt and I love having the option to have breakfast food at lunch! – TommyKen, Citysearch
  • I had a wonderful breakfast today, this establishment was very impressive. I knew I was in for a treat when I walked into the restaurant... – Chubbyluve, Citysearch
  • I'm looking forward to future visits and exploring the menu! There are some really interesting crepes, omelettes, and waffles to check out! – Jennifer R., Yelp

Groupon Says

Make Your Home VIP

The Egg and I Restaurant is only open until 2 p.m., giving the eatery an exclusive, VIP atmosphere not unlike an upscale bar. Here are some ways you can give your own home the feel of an exclusive dance club:

  • Replace your front door with a velvet rope to keep out unfashionable losers and polite robbers
  • Turn your shower into a water sculpture by putting a coat rack in there and turning the water on
  • Hire a bouncer to guard your linen closet and tell everyone it's a VIP room containing Beau Bridges
  • Make every Tuesday College Night by going to night school
  • Replace your oven with a strobe light
