The Hot and Cold Cafe

Nestled within Cook Street Village, The Hot and Cold Cafe's kitchen crew makes all of its food on-site from scratch and cleverly showcases local ingredients with what Eat Magazine called an "eclectic little lineup of globally-influenced offerings." Inside, owner Cosmo Meens draws from his experience as founder of local dining institutions Molé and Café Bliss and, most notably, his stint feeding the athletes of the Canadian Olympic triathlon team, to whip up culinary delights such as an Ireland Farm free-frange barbecue chicken salad and Arborio rice pudding.

Cosmo decorates his cozy 20-seat restaurant with artwork from his kids, and scrawls menu offerings and detention times for rowdy diners across chalkboards. The minimal decor reflects an equally uncomplicated menu, which counts yellow curry among its three regular soups, and also showcases a daily special. Sandwiches, salads, and organic housemade bread round out the spread, and available frozen dinners allow visitors to savour the café's flavours from home.
