Choose from Three Options

  • $24 for a two-hour photo walk led by instructors (a $49 value)
  • $39 for a two-hour photo walk for two (a $98 value)
  • $49 for a three-hour introduction-to-photography boot camp and a two-hour photo walk (a $99 value)

Participants take in the view from the Boylan Bridge while learning from experienced instructors. The boot camp focuses on the theory and practice of picture taking, including photo composition and perspective and camera settings such as ISO, f-stop, shutter speed, and exposure. After breaking for lunch, groups join up with those attending only the photo walk, venturing along the bridge to put photographic skills to use with the cameras and manuals students have brought along. Point-and-shoot cameras are welcome, as are more complex SLR cameras. Boot camps are scheduled from 9 a.m. until noon; photo walks start at 1 p.m. See the website for available boot camp dates.

The House of NyghtFalcon

Coming to photography after an eclectic career that has seen him earn a PhD in biblical theology and win a Computerworld Smithsonian medal for contributions to technology, Falcon—The House of NyghtFalcon's founder and head photographer—specializes in emotionally powerful, naturally lit photos that reveal unseen perspectives in familiar sights. His handpicked photographic associates undergo three years of apprenticeship before donning the mantle of full partner. Basic and advanced seminars mix photographic theory with hands-on learning, teaching students how to master cameras' arcane functions, frame shots, and determine the shutter speed at which time folds back in on itself.

The Groupon Guide to: Science-Fair Projects

As the school year continues to heat up, it's time to start thinking about this year's science fair. Here's a list of science projects that will help you win the science competition at your school:

  • A homemade volcano, but you add chunks of hot dog to the baking soda/vinegar mixture to get texture and flavor
  • Use your homemade potato battery to send an electric current through your braces. Then tell people at your table, "My mouth's an outlet, plug in your phone."
  • In front of poster that says "What would life be like without photosynthesis?" place two pizzas side by side, one with green peppers and one without.
  • Just put out a clear plastic case and label it "air."
  • Perform the most challenging live science experiment of all—seeing if you can get your parents back together at your grade-school science fair.

Why do my braces always smell like potato?
