Oceans make up 70% of Earth's surface, with the remaining 30% divided between boating mega-stores and parking lots for boating mega-stores. Get to know the planet's majority stockholder with today's Groupon to The Living Planet Aquarium in Sandy. Choose between the following options:
• For $10, you get a one-year membership for an adult (a $20 value).
• For $8, you get a one-year membership for a child aged 3–17 (a $16 value).
To demonstrate the interdependence of all life forms on the planet, The Living Planet Aquarium hosts an extended-phylum reunion of 1,250 animals spanning 267 species and hailing from ocean, rainforest, and freshwater habitats. Columbia spotted frogs from the “Discover Utah” exhibit scold their offspring not to tap on the glass as they watch humans take a simulated boat ride across the Great Salt Lake to study brine-shrimp life cycles, why birds migrate to the lake, and how its ecosystem affects the planet. The “Ocean Explorer” exhibit, meanwhile, showcases sea jellies, eels, seahorses, and six different species of sharks. A giant pacific octopus inks fleeting underwater haiku for passing patrons, and fearless fingers can pet rubbery aqua bodies and play fin-to-hand patty-cake at the stingray touch tank. For a slightly more land-based lesson, “Journey to South America” packs its rainforest habitat with anacondas, piranhas, poison dart frogs, and caiman alligators.
In addition to a year of unlimited admission, membership to The Living Planet Aquarium includes 10% off gift-shop items, stingray feedings, and birthday parties—as well as $5 off “Penguin Encounters”.
The exhibits have fantastic animals that anyone in Utah would have to drive at least 10-15 hours just to see elsewhere.Jared, Google Maps, 6/15/11
