OK, just so I don’t think I’m stupid. Say you spend $50. First the tax is added at 11.25%, so that’s $5.63. Then gratutity is added at 18% (usually after tax), add another $10 bucks. Now your total is $65.63 subtract the $50.00 discount, so $15.63 is added to the $20 from the groupon, and your grand total is $35.63. Did I do that right?
Sounds right to me. I figured it out, too, and started to wonder it’s still worth it. But the truth is that we would have had to pay tax and gratuity on a 50 dollar bill, anyway. So, we still save $30.
I don’t believe so…What they are saying is that they will add the tax & the gratuity to your bill at the Martini Bar total then deduct your $50 Gift Card. Your total today is just $20.
No Cheryll, the $50 credit is not applicable to tax or tip, so Victoria and Devayani are essentially correct, though gratuity should be figured on the pre-tax amount. If you go there without a groupon and drink $50 it’s gonna cost you the $50 plus tax, plus tip, so it’ll be about $65. With groupon, about $35. Just make sure to drink up your fifty buck credit, no change back.
I dont like it that this place is not open on the weekends… so we essentially have to go here on a weekday… That pretty much rules out people who live in the burbs!
How much is a martini at this place?
Can you use more than one groupon at 1 visit?
Oh… and do they serve any food? Their website didn’t show any type of food menu.
they don’t serve food here, although I have seen them provide catered food to the patrons on occasion.
the prices are on par with any other bar in the loop, a bit more expensive than your neighborhood dive but not horible. two, definitely three people shouldn’t have a problem hitting the $50.
I have been there and it is about 10-12 for a martini and they do serve food there.
They do have a pretty extensive martini list, but they use pretty cheap vodka for being a “premier” spot for martinis in downtown Chicago, don’t you think? I expect smirnoff in a martini at a sports bar, but at a place whose thing is martinis, I expect better.

Shannon, if this is true that is pretty sad. I’ve never been and appreciate the heads-up. I think I’ll pass on this deal. Many thanks…
The fine print isn’t very clear where it says ‘11.25% tax and 18% gratuity will be added to the pre-discounted bill’, as it doesn’t specifically say the Groupon can’t be used to pay tax and gratuity.
So does this mean I can buy 4x$10 martinis, making $40 the value of my pre-discounted bill, add tax and gratuity, which comes to $52.60 total, and use my Groupon value of $50, and just pay the remaining $2.60? (If gratuity is based on the pre-tax value, it works out at 90 cents less).
The other option is to go on Thursday when they have a special on selected Martinis for $6. Shame the offers can’t be combined.
I bought this a while back. I expected to pay tax, but didn’t realize gratuity would be added too… although when I think about it I would expect it for drinks and pay anyway.

Just used my Groupon and even though the bartender asked if I had a Groupon when she cashed us out, she neglected to deduct the $50. She rerang it and said the original one would not be processed – I’m going to have to keep an eye on my credit card to be sure.
where is this bar located i could not find it is it in the board of trade building???
Don’t forget that the receipt includes the 18% tip – your receipt will not be itemized and it will not show that gratuity was already included. It’s still a good deal, though.

please tell me ur kidding me they are not open on weekends? I finally am able to go because it EXPIRES on the 28th of Feb. and we were going on saturday nite and now I’m gonna lose my money….first of all very upset it has expiration…and haven’t had to the chance to get to chicago for this any sooner…..
None of my friends are able to make it tonight, and really not wanting to go by myself. Anybody on here wouldn’t want it i guess since they have one already…. darn it

Lisa and Bill, I’m having the same problem. I was supposed to go tonight but none of my friends can go and I’m really pissed about it expiring on a day that they’re not even open.
