Much like updating your resume, getting your fingers in shape is the first step toward escaping a dead-end job as an inflatable-keyboard player. Prepare for a brighter future with today's Groupon to The Nail Shop, with locations in Oakland and Walnut Creek, and The Lounge Nail Spa, in Berkeley. Choose between the following options:

  • For $12, you get a pedicure (a $22 value) with a sea-salt foot scrub (a $5 value; a $27 total value).
  • For $25, you get a deluxe manicure (a $17 value) and a deluxe pedicure (a $35 value; a $52 total value).

The seasoned nail techs at The Nail Shop and The Lounge Nail Spa buff up finger and toe tips with a range of indulgent services. During the signature Lounge pedicure, aestheticians preen piggy hats with a cuticle cleanup and slough off dead skin and hardened cement with help from pumice stones. Slipper stuffers receive rubdowns to release walking-related anxieties before specialists shape each nail and top toe caps with a buff or colorful coat of polish. The sea-salt scrub further exfoliates footscapes with a blend of natural oils and mineral and European sea salts, leaving them as soft and tender as pillows made out of filet mignon. For appendages in need of extra attention, the deluxe pedicure softens and soothes sore tootsies with an aloe-vera pumice scrub, a peppermint mask, and an extended 10-minute foot massage with scented lotion in a choice of mango coconut, cucumber aloe, vanilla shimmer, or citrus and green tea. The deluxe manicure lavishes upstairs pointers with the same type of diligence, softening hands with an exfoliating crystalline citrus rub and skin-quenching vitamin E creams. After both deluxe treatments, aestheticians wind down the pamper fest by blanketing warm-towel wraps around hands and feet, helping them feel as relaxed and secure as the time they found themselves stuck inside a freshly made pie.

The Groupon Guide to: Sad Short Stories to Post in Social Media

The world is having a love affair with sad short stories being posted on social media sites. Feel free to join in on the craze and post these all over the Internet:

  • There was a little girl. The little girl had a horse that she loved. The horse also loved the little girl and would do anything she wanted. The horse would go to flowers if she said, “Go to flowers,” or the horse would kiss her hair if she said, “Kiss my hair.” One day the girl said to the horse, “Let’s go to the arcade.” The horse went straight to where she asked but he thought she said “bear cave,” not “arcade.” The horse let the bears eat it so the girl could get away. • There wuz dis cute couple. They went everwhere 2gether. But then the boy gotta job in a difrent town. She asked him if she could go to the town wit him. He says no. Girl starts cryng and runs away into a bigg field. A eagle smells her tears ans swoops down and takes girl away. Boy sees and starts cryne. He say “I said you counldn’t come cause I would never leave inna first place.” “Like” if this make you have tears.

  • Thomas Halverstrom sighed. Thirty-two years at the agency and they had let him go in one short, to-the-point meeting. “The industry has changed,” said one of the interchangeable men on the other side the conference table. “We need fresh blood.” Well, they would have it. Thomas had stayed too long at the bar and missed the last bus home; he would have to walk. He had 32 blocks to gather his words for his wife. He hated letting her down. It was cold and his feet hurt—the kind of hurt with 60 years piled on top of it. He sighed, dried his tears with his sleeve, and started walking. Then some aliens blew up the entire world forever. • The ladies who work at The Lounge are very friendly and can usually fit me in if I forget to call and just happen to walk in.

  • I've been here several times over the past few years, and its [sic] my favorite of the nail salons I've been to in the bay area.
