On Saturday, April 13, runners don either glowing costumes or plain black or white T-shirts for a neon-themed 5K. Open from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.—with the first wave of runners starting at 8 p.m.—the race’s course wends through four glow stations, which spritz runners from above with a clothing-safe, water-based spray that radiates light. The race closes with a finish-line party dubbed the Neon Festival, which provides live entertainment.

The Neon Run

The Neon Run brings the age-old traditions of running competitions into the 21st century, using a 5K course built around glow stations, from which a water-based formula rains down on runners. The liquid radiates light; coupled with the black lights and LED along the route, it creates a surreal confusion of color. The race culminates in a Neon Festival, in which each runner is armed with a personal bottle of the formula. To celebrate crossing the finish line, they can spray their fellow racers and dance to live music.
