The Shak Hawaiian Cafe

A pair of bright yellow surfboards and a map of the Hawaiian islands cling to the walls at The Shak Hawaiian Cafe, infusing the eatery with a tropical vibe that extends to its menu. Chefs stack slow-cooked Hawaiian-style kalua pork atop biscuits and gravy during breakfast, stuff it inside rolls during lunch, and set it up on blind dates with grilled pineapple during dinner. In addition to crafting this house specialty, they simmer chicken in Hawaiian coconut curry and dip delicate filets of mahi-mahi in egg batter before tossing it on the grill. When not tending to loyal regulars in the main dining room, the café hosts parties and relaxed traffic court proceedings in two private rooms that can seat up to 40 guests.

Reviews

  • We had the pork curry, pork adobo, kalua pig and the Cajun talapia. All were excellent. They were served with coconut rice which was also excellent.
