The Tannery

The Tannery’s staff strives to imbue clients with the appearance of having just left the beach. Behind chocolate-colored curtains, clients with warm, bronzed skin slip from traditional tanning beds, which are pleasantly free of the seashore’s sand and piles of filthy ukuleles. High-pressure Matrix and European beds can build base tans in as few as three or four sessions, respectively. A further walk down the gold-colored hallway reveals an airbrush-tanning studio, where a staffer selects a shade according to each patron’s skin tone. The team draws on its Smart Tan certification when outlining tanning plans, whether clients are in search of long-lasting or temporary color.

Unfold the map. This is the worst part. Put your phone in your pocket or your mouth for a minute while you use both hands to open up the stupid map.

Look at the map. This is the other worst part. You can only look at the map. It doesn’t do anything when you touch it or ask it to play the songs. It just sits there.

Go to the place on the map. Once you get there, use your phone to reflect sunlight onto the map so it burns. It burns away. It goes away. It doesn’t come back. The fire makes it nothing. Take a picture of the nothingness with your phone.
