Veganism is more than eating healthy and ethically—one weekend a month, vegans must aid the secret, underground root-vegetable resistance army. Taste veganism's true colors with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of vegan fare and drinks at The V-Spot in Park Slope, Brooklyn. As the leafy-green outgrowth of owner Daniel Carabaño's desire to meld his Latin heritage with vegan philosophy, The V-Spot delivers a healthy harvest of Latin-inspired meat-, cheese-, and egg-free fare. Reap the myriad health and taste-bud benefits of herbaceous entrees such as the bandeja paisa, made with sautéed seitan, vegan chorizo, brown rice, black beans, avocado, and plantains ($16), or branch out to American-style vegan cuisine such as the breaded "chicken" cutlets with mushroom gravy, sautéed spinach, and garlic mashed potatoes ($12). Those who cannot bear the thought of a meal sans meat any more than they can bear a morning commute without a break-out dance number can still lounge with friends on the outdoor patio and imbibe a salubrious selection of organic juices, smoothies, beer, sake, and wine ($2–$8).

Reviews

Reviewers are mixed on service but praise the vegan options. Yelpers give The V-Spot a 3.5-star average, and 80% of Urbanspooners recommend it. Citysearchers give it an average of four stars.

  • This is one of the best vegan restaurants I have ever eaten at. The empanadas are delicious. – Theresa G., Yelp

The Groupon Guide to: Substitute Teaching

Substitute teachers come to school when they learn a new fact that they just have to share with someone or when regular teachers run out of mental health. Here are some tips for taking over a class for a day:

Look the Part: Dress like a full-time teacher. If you don’t know how a teacher dresses because you never attended school, just wear a long-sleeve tank top, pants you can think in, and running shoes for chasing down students' dreams and turning them into more realistic dreams.

Write Your Name: Students today have exciting names such as Stycxx and K'ydyn, making it impossible for them to remember your boring, vowel-bloated moniker. Write your real name on the chalkboard, or simply go by "Sub Sandwich."

Give Them Options: Let your students choose between watching a movie and not watching a movie. Anyone who chooses not to watch a movie must stay late after school and watch two movies.

Take Control: Don't let the class get out of control. Before speaking, students should raise their hands, and before thinking, they should be reminded that their opinions are smaller than those of their teacher.

Is your substitute teacher wearing the wrong kind of pants?
